(1) Hi, I have Kris Flyer points expiring October, November & December, when I go to extend these it says I can extend 3 months (as per above) at one time, however if i do this are they all extended for 6 months from the firsts that expire (October) or will the extend 6 months from each expirying month or do I need to do it seperate.

(2) Also say I extend the October points does this them make them expirying at the end of end of April or how is the date determined?

(3) If as in point 2 above these are extended to end of April what is the longest time before the flight can be used from the end of April? is it 12 months?

Thanks for your assistance.

Hello Magnum, how many points are involved?
If you have enough points you can book something out for almost a years time either before or after extending the points.
There has been some really good Saver redemptions so I would suggest you go looking on the SQ site.

Hi Cove, thanks for the reply I have just over 1 million points expirying over the next 3 months? if you or anyone can help on the specific questions it would be greatly appreciated

My understanding is this:

1) Each month's lot will be extended by six months in 1 transaction ie Oct +6 months, Nov +6, Dec +6.
2) If the miles expire at the end of October, upon extension they will expire end of April.
3) If you redeem a Saver before expiry, the validity of the ticket is 6 months from first issue. If Standard, it's 12 months.

Beware that miles can only be extended once,
and that if a redemption using miles that were (say) 1 day away from expiring is cancelled
those miiles cannot be redeposited at all. Not sure if that's clear...

Thanks for the above, just one question re point 3 I am a bit confused by the 6 month validity for a saver ticket as I can book one of these now for nearly 12 months in advance so if I was to extend my October points which would then expire in April could I not book a saver fare in April for say 11 months (March) in adavance?

Yes magnum you need to start looking at where you want to go and when. First step is to keep these points alive by either a 6 month extension or by booking flights for your redemption nominees. You are allowed 5 plus yourself and you can enrol them easily.
i agree with deluxeflyer with his explanation. I have been going on from Singapore to Manchester London and Los Angeles and the bookings were pretty easy. SQ have some really good destinations like New York, Amsterdam and Rome so time to go looking.

Ok extend each of those 3 months of points separately by 6 months.
Within these new expiry time frames you can then make bookings which could be in Saver,Standard or Full Wack.
You can book forward by about 11 months when you are ready to get set.

Thanks Cove, can you explain re the 6 month validity for a saver ticket that deluxeflyer refered to as follows: If you redeem a Saver before expiry, the validity of the ticket is 6 months from first issue. If Standard, it's 12 months.

The key lies in the fact the clock starts ticking on the validity not from the date of issue, but from the date of first ticketed sector.

Also, the 6 month validity for saver awards has gone away now, according to T&C below (my bolding):

All award tickets are valid for six or twelve months from the date of the first flight as ticketed, unless otherwise specified

....

* For award tickets issued before 8 July 2012, the validity is for 6 months. For award tickets issued after 8 July 2012, the validity is for 12 months.

So you can book an award ticket now for travel in September next year, and it will be valid through to September 2014 (although obviously you can't move the flights to Sep 2014 until they come available some time September next year).

Hi dajop, thanks for that so if I understand correctly the following would be possible? Points expirying October 2012 extend by 6 months new expiry April 2013, reedem points for flight 11 months time March 2014, then can change booking to March 2015 once inside the booking window? is this correct ?

Also do Kris flyer points all expire at the end of the month or from the actual date they credited which would make it hard to calculate?

Yes that seems correct.

I think it's the end of the month, account only shows it by month, not by date.
