A CROCODILE escaped from its cage on a Qantas flight last week, and was found roaming free in the cargo hold when the plane touched down in Melbourne. Qantas today confirmed a croc had managed to break free during a flight from Brisbane to Melbourne, and was discovered by a baggage handler when he opened the cargo hold.

The roaming croc was quickly and safely captured and rushed back to its cage without incident.

Maybe it was still hungry after eating the refreshment :)

I'm not a reptile handler or animal shipping expert - but that appears to be a $5 plastic storage crate from the likes of the Reject Shop. You wouldn't even be allowed to ship a domestic pet in a container like that. It certainly seems an odd choice for a crocodile, even a small one!

And finally, a cage that worked!

It would explain why the crew were a bit snappy on the flight.

I reckon this story will be on the front page of the NT times tomorrow.

The Empty, I mean NT News will pull out some story from the archives about how our crocs on planes are more dangerous than the ones on the East Coast, or the fact that it was an NT Croc.

I hope he didn't try and get friendly with any of that fashionable croc skin luggage.

I don't believe that a container from the reject shop would transport any animal at all.

Lucky there where no other animals down there it could have been a very different story

One wonders why it was accepted for transport in that container.

Or a stowaway!

For mine, I'll take the croc locked in the hold over the snake loose in the coughpit.

Guess it depends what kind of snake it was however I think you'd be pretty keen to land asap no matter what.

One of the AFP guys at DRW Apt is a snake/croc wrangler.
