I have never been to Las Vegas but I do not see the attraction other than maybe 1 or 2 nights to see some of the sites.

I have been trying to encourage one of the young(ish) men at golf to come to Thailand for Christmas/Year for a number of years. He is a bit hesitant and then last game said he interested in going and has narrowed it down to Thailand or Las Vegas. Why would you want to spend your holidays gambling and drinking overpriced alcohol?

Clearly someone who has never been to Vegas with that line JohnK, how is free alcohol overpriced?? And there is a heck of a lot more to do than gambling, shows, shopping, Hoover dam, Grand Canyon and Golf!

all red blooded males should go to Vegas once in their lives... 4 nights is plenty and as markis10 said,, there is a lot to do in Vegas other then gamble (allthough you do need to gamble for the free drinks) there are plenty of great golf courses and that 8th wonder of the world "Hoover Dam".. I'd go again just to go to the Dam and do the "Damn" tour again..

Love the buffets as well that stretch for ages in these mega hotels, although they are not necessarily fine dining and so not for everyone on AFF.. :) But yes, Vegas is a bit of a party town, bit like New Orleans i suppose, but without the beads... The accommodation and plenty of the meals and alcohol is actually pretty cheap as its all to entice you to come and lose your money on the tables where they make there real money... And its certainly up to you whether you just want to watch others, have a little flutter or do the lot... But yes the Grand Canyon was impressive, we hired a car and drove over Hoover Dam down to Phoenix and then to Tucson (where the AMARC USAF plane repository is also pretty impressive).. But there are the shows, the rides and all the rest as well and a group of friends could have a pretty good time... We were there for about 3 days in 2004, buts it is on my list of places to do again in the next couple of years...

and the shopping is a plus...several large malls with factory outlets selling branded goods.

And the memorable weddings if your looking for a place to tie the knot... :)

From memory you are not a fan of the USA though ?

Why would you want to go to a 3rd world Country and drink potentially deadly alcohol ?

You can easily spend a week in Vegas

Grand Canyon
Hoover Dam
Death Valley
Shopping
Gambling
Skiing
Pool
Drinking
Shows

Thailand and Vegas are two totally different experiences though!

$1/$2 drinks are fine with me :)

Although you tend to end up giving them much more than that.... Plus a tip to the dealer every now and then!

The USA is fine. I love to visit when I have the time.

You need to explain this one to me as I may have missed something.

Both have golf, but only Vegas has a TPC course.
Does a copy count? Khao Kheow is a Pete Dye course with many of his signature holes including the 17th and 18th at TPC Sawgrass.

I was more referring to the night clubs as he is a young(ish) bloke and loves to go out drinking.

I think he may also be led astray in Vegas and lose more than he bargained for. Although in saying that he would probably be led astray in Thailand as well but in a different way.

As someone who has been to both Bangkok and Las Vegas I have to say I prefer Bangkok.

Las Vegas is worth seeing once and I saw a few shows, walked along the strip and went to the Grand Canyon. As I said once was enough. Having said that I loved travelling to the US and will return there next year but won't return to Vegas.

Bangkok on the other hand has just as many ways to be led astray but I reckon the people are more genuine and ultimately happier.

Agree 100 percent, but you need to do both, if just to appreciate why one is better. I have no desire to go back, but glad I went.

I love going to Thailand but sometimes I just can't help but think that a lot of the locals I meet are always trying their best to make me part from my money.

But that is not their fault. We are the ones to blame.
