Have you had a welcome call from the P1 team. (I'm interested because I didn't receive one and other than two missed calls three months ago, about international flights I had, haven't heard a thing from them...other than the generic email about MCA access.)
Well done. I think I recall that someone else who recently reached P1 had their first flight upgraded for free. Perhaps it is a new unpublished welcoming gift or maybe just coincidence.
If it is true that the first flight is an upgrade, perhaps best to plan an o/s leg first. Mt first flight on achieving P1 (in the first group of members) was J MEL - LHR and I was bumped up to F, so a nice welcome indeed. I have had other upgrades since, but fairly random.
More evidence to suggest that Platinum One is the Old Platinum + some additional benefits. It will be interesting to read the rest of your experiences in your domestic flying.

No upgrade on the way back and no discernible difference in service (mind you I slept most of the flight) - bizarrely full for a 2PM flight.
Rather annoying seat buddy - didnt shut down laptop when announcement raised, then stuffed it in a seat back, on descent didnt shut down when first asked and stuffed in the seat back. When told to put it in her bag she just put it on the floor under seat in front. Why is it so hard for some people to just do what they are told?
