Hi

At my recent HSW stay I had two bookings as I decided to add an extra night to the stay. Subsequently I have checked my points and I am a tad confused. My total bill was A$573. However what was posted was:

Code:
Activity Description ------------------------------------------------------------------	HHonors Points
Base Points - HILTON MELBOURNE SOUTH WHARF --------------------------------------	3,323
2012 Q3 TRIPLE YOUR TRIP SYSTEMWIDE OFFE - HILTON MELBOURNE SOUTH WHARF---------- 3,323
DIAMOND VIP BONUS - 50% 2011 - HILTON MELBOURNE SOUTH WHARF ------------------------	1,661
50% BONUS ON BASE POINTS - HILTON MELBOURNE SOUTH WHARF ---------------------------	1,661
DIAMOND MYWAY BONUS - HILTON MELBOURNE SOUTH WHARF -------------------------------	1,000

I have no idea what the triple your points offer is and it doesnt appear to be 3x anything...

My actual costs were:

Code:
Room service	32
Room service	26
Room charge	227
Room service	52
Room charge	227
Credit Card fee	8

It looks like just one night has credited so is it worth an email to HHonors with a scan of the folio?

It looks like the Triple Your Points offer was the double points offer, which is for stays on Monday-Thursday nights. Triple points was for Friday-Sunday night stays. Was it on Friday-Sunday at all?

From looking at it, one nights' room charge plus the food service comes to AUD337, which once you take taxes out, is about AUD307. Converted to USD and then 10 points per USD wouldn't be far off the mark for what you got on base points.

I'm assuming that "50% BONUS ON BASE POINTS - HILTON MELBOURNE SOUTH WHARF" is because you selected "HHonors Points and Points" as your earning preference?

I would think that you should get a copy of the folio. In my experience when they meld two confirmation numbers together they mangle it, taking the amount of the first confirmation and adding it as a charge on the second confirmation, but often they add it as a non-points earning charge. It reconciles, but it completely screws up the points.

I would think that you'd be entitled to approximately 5500-6000 points. At times when I've tried to fix these things with Hilton Sydney (where the incorrect number of points post, not no points posted), they've been a disaster. In the end I called Diamond concierge and they offered me the option of launching an investigation, or the concierge would just add the number of points I thought I would be entitled to, and she added them immediately. They came up as base points for elite qualification too, even though it should have only been about half of them were qualification-eligible!

Thanks that was my take on it as well. I will call the Diamond line - I am more interested in base points rather than the overall points - although despite what I asserted to LW at HSW I might actually qualify on stays this year

I'm surprising myself that I'm am about to requalify for 2013 on points, and will qualify on nights in November, followed closely by stays. I'm surprised that I am managing to requalify at all, being self-funded for all of the travel!

I share your pain with checking points. Many times I've looked and wondered. Once I recall a few of us missed promo points within the first couple of days of promo (Q1 perhaps?) but never bothered chasing them up. My drama is keeping track of all the promos offered (and that I've registered for).

I wonder if it would be beneficial for the mods to start a sticky that lists the common names for promos (as they seem to vary a bit from account to account) and which ones are still earning ( the Great Getaway is a classic example how AFF networking helped). Obviously we could all help with info we receive, but how good would it be to look up an AFF list and check off what we're entitled to??

Well that was quick. Scanned my itinerary and emailed them this morning - email back after lunch with the points credited!!

Also scanned my bookings and found another one (obviously the system doesnt like it when you pay for two reservations on consecutive nights on a single bill). All up an extra 6000+ Base points and 15000-18000 points in total. Now sat on 74K base points - 17 stays and 26 nights...

Also had a minor problem where I booked two consecutive stays at a Hilton hotel. Portfolios were merged, and points credited incorrectly.
Sent a claim to Hilton where the matter was dealt with amazingly promptly, and most courteously. Most impressed.

I find hotel loyalty points near-on impossible to track. The first step converting into US dollars is always difficult as you never know the rate. Then the tier bonus gets added after that. While I don't pretend to have a solution, it makes planning very difficult. Unlike with air travel where the distance is already determined (and what I undestand to be the basis of most frequent flyer programs), if I know I've got, say, two three nights stays at the Hilton Cairns coming up, I'm buggered if I know how much I'm going to earn.

And therefore, it's equally difficult to know whether or not the points have posted correctly.

I'm confident that I've been sold short a few hundred or maybe even thousands of points over the years.

Fortunately a couple of thousand points aren't worth all that much.

Think they sorted me in Jeddah also.

I agree forecasting is hard - especially as you don't know what room service charges you might incur...

In a further update I think I just found 16K base points missing from a Jeddah stay during a double your points promo - so 48K missing points in total and very close to requal as Diamond...

I agree. It's clearly just a 'size' thing but 22k Hyatt loyalty points for a top level hotel stay or 50k+ for Hilton. It's all about the appearance. At least with Hyatt it looks like you're getting a good deal.

It's tax time but where do I find an HHonors points auditor? Are they listed in the Yellow Pages? Ha.

Every instance I found was where I had consecutive bookings - generally arising where I plan a trip then move the dates around.

Note I do run an Internal Audit function

Took a few attempts and emails but got credited another 20K base points and 60K overall!!!

Now just 4K off requal as Diamond on Base Points.

You sure to travel a lot :) Can I ask what you do? :)
