Thanks to the rich vein of advice on AFF I have bought TPE-SYD return in J.

Do the HKG-SYD components still have the old coffin styles seats or should I expect new business?

The new config has started doing the rounds to SYD, but with CX's policy of frequent last min subs and only 3x 333s having this product, all bets are off.

The new business is definitely a step forward, but since you'll be sleeping through most of the red-eye flight, it doesn't really matter, although the coffin certainly gets a little tight.

Ah... CX139, is it? Haven't looked at that one for a while, so I don't know if they've switched to the new seats yet.

By the way, since you have bought the ticket, you can take a look at the seat map. The coffin is in the config of 1-1-1, while the new Cirrus is in 1-2-1. At least you know which one is currently scheduled for your flight.

I was lucky enough to have the new A330 config HKG-MEL after a last minute ac change. Definitely a more pleasurable J seat.

Coffin Class is by no means a bad product, in fact it still beats the pants off a lot of airlines J product (Malaysian, SQ regional, Thai, Skybed Mk1). But the cirrus seats are really pretty great, especially the window seats, which aren't that dissimilar to the Cathay First product.

Thanks for the help - yes it's 139 - checked on EF it's 1-2-1 so looks good.

I think.....all SYD and no other OZ port (unless a last minute AC change) at this point on time.

I came to this conclusion after reviewing seat maps over a few different days for a flight in Sept! Was looking to try the MEL Flounge however, the seat maps turned me back to SYD.

Thnxs Ill look through Sydney first. Aus has always been a major destination for CX

I am looking for some premium economy CX seats in Nov. All flight from SYD show this class so I presume the planes would also include the new J class.

It's pretty narrow, but still to this day, the best sleep I have ever had on a plane (twice) was in CX J (Herringbone). It is a great product. Full flat bed, very comfy. Even though it is narrow, it's fine for me (5'11'').

Thanks. I just chekced not sure if its correct the coffin seats are 18.5" seat width. I tried VS PE and that one was 21 inches wide?? Can that be right? :)

If I had not been upgraded to the new config, I was going to ask at the gate to be moved to Economy as it's more comfortable than 'coffin class' for anyone over 5'11" and anyone wider than the average asian business man. I'm a tall big guy, there's no way I was going to do 9 hours in that seat. The u/s gods shined on me though and I got very lucky!

I'm not sure of the numbers, but from my day flight experience (and sore elbows from repeatedly hitting the dividers), it is high plausible.

I'm probably just a tad smaller than the average asian business man, and it's still pretty narrow for me. Thankfully, I hardly move in my sleep, and I'm usually pretty dead by the time I get onboard a redeye flight so the coffin works just as well for me for night flights.
