There are always two sides to every story

""TSA has reviewed the incident and determined that our officers followed proper screening procedures in conducting a modified pat-down on the child," the agency said."

On my recent USA trip with a few TSA encounters they were all friendly and professional and even having a few jokes!

Good ole TSA, protecting the USA from its worst enemies, all while having a laff..

Really? IME I've found the TSA to all be a bunch of power hungry idiots who are so focused on making the process unpleasant so you know "they are doing their job"... (I'm sure there is one or two good ones there, I let you know when I find them)...
I've been through airport security many times, therefore I do know the procedure. The US is the only place where I've had orders barked at me. A feeling of guilty until proven not as guilty as we first suspected, but you probably are guilty so we'll still treat you as such.

As for the pat down of a 4YO... Lets assume that grandma had slipped her the illegal object which set off the detector, wouldn't sending the child through the detector again most likely detect said object if the child now had procession? It seems like the logical next step, otherwise why had any sort of metal detector at all, if your not confident it will pick up dangerous objects?

Edit: Yes I realise I have probably just signed up for a free colonoscopy for every subsequent visit to the US for publishing my thoughts of the TSA...

Find any 4 yr old who qualifies as a co-operative suspect. How hard can it be to pay down a toddler? Unless of course you are expecting a 4 yr old to standstill and hold out their arms. That's just asking for trouble with a tot.

And then you woke up? ;)

I'm yet to find a 'happy' TSA agent, let alone a friendly one. Which airport was it? I'm tempted to fly there just so I can actually see one ;)

I thought TSA was mainly intended as a jobs program :)
The TSA are enough to make one not want to bother about going to the USA :!:

This morning's discussion reaffirms my view that TSA are in fact one notch better that US CBP

Most of my dealings with the CBP have been pretty good. They've been polite and professional (although most of my US trips have been since the CBP decided to clean up their image), although the lines have been a little long at LAX for my likings...

I can't support that view. With trips to the US over the last 5 years, I've encountered plenty of friendly TSA people and only a few who seem to have worked for too long. My main objection has been to their immigration people who invariably treat everyone as potential illegal immigrants.

Given the nature of many of the people both groups have to deal with, I'm prepared to cut them a little slack, although, having said that, the incident with the 4 year old does seem a little OTT.

News reports have now clarified that the 4yo girl had recently shaved her beard, so was actively avoiding detection. Thank god the TSA are manning the wall.

Have only been to the states twice but have done 9 internal flights .Some TSA were a bit on the i'm the boss side and some were ok.Immigration is another matter.100 questions.

The happiest and most sane TSA agents I found were in SLC.

The rest, well let's say they're parking cops on steroi_s.........especially the ones that bark at you. Gods children Definately.

Agreed, though they seem very lax at checking that people are LEAVING the USA as they should too..
