Hi all,

Just did a run Perth to Sao Paulo - Business Class.

Worth saying I was very happy with the service, pick up in perth went well and the check-in and the lounge in perth was good. The place was not too crowded and the food was good.

The flight was good, i like the beds, but was in an E seat, and that sort of takes away from the business feeling. I prefer an isle but what are you going to do. The food on both legs was excellent, and the staff were very good. My iphone was dead and the USB port was playing up so they plugged my phone into one of the first class ports, nice of them to do this.

I landed in Dubai at 5am and the Business Class Lounge was humming but i found a seat and the food was good.

It would have been good to have some USB ports around the lounge like there are plugs for laptops for those of us silly enough to forget our chargers.

Sao paulo was its usual orgainsed chaos, but my lugguage was waiting right off the conveyors for pick up and i was able to meet my brizilian tranfer with alot of time to spare. All up I was very happy with the experience as I usually go Perth-sydney-NZ-Chile-sao paulo - Qantas/Lan Chile.

The flight is a bit longer Via Dubai but i prefered the service.

That is quite an interesting long cut to go that way.
There is a direct flight to Auckland out of Perth so I am sure my sons are thinking the quickest way for Brazil.

It is the long way around, but i have done the Perth-Syd-Auck-SouthA route as well, I prefer less planes, and less waiting in airports. There is a Dubai-Rio route which gets in 5 hours faster (less time in Dubai airport and faster). I also find the service on this route very good. Ive had two work mates upgraded to First as well Dubai to Sao Paulo.

Well that works a treat then so I will tell my sons. They want to go for the sport in 2014.

The Dubai-Rio leg also goes on to B.A in Argentina, so its a nice run if they are going for the World Cup, and then feel like traveling after that. My work mate last week and I were both on the Perth-Dubia leg together (10hrs). She went directly to the Rio connection, via Dubai transit. No wait. I had a 4 hr wait in Dubai on my way to Dubai.

Worth noting also when flying internally in Brazil - i'd fly GOL. They have a "smiles" FF program but if you have an AA account you can claim the flights on AA after the fact.

I work mostly in Belo Horizonte here - for a global miner - great city, small'ish (4 million!). Its an hour by plane from Sao Paulo. worth a visit.

I love Belo Horizonte. Bizarrely I had the best fish lunch i have ever had there. (Back there again in a couple of weeks.)

its a great city, has all the colour and brazilian flare of the larger cities like rio and sao paulo, but i find it a lot safer.

I can get my sons to start looking at maps as we have not travelled to S.America.
Thanks for the tips!

Because of the operating carrier? Or another reason?

SAS/Qantas are hopeless on this route. Perth to Joburg is ok, but the Joburg to Sao Paulo leg (SAS) is not that great old plans and bad service. Ive done it in both Economy and business....has the power go out in business once about ten minutes after take off in joburg.

BTW - Emirates use the Smiles VIP lounge in Sao Paulo.....AA in next door - if you can, use that instead. Better food and drinks plus there are actually people cleaning up. its 10pm on friday at the moment at the Smiles lounge is a mess. Beer cans I think from three hours ago.

I am not advocating this other lengthy route.....but Singapore Airlines fly to Sao Paulo via Barcelona a few times per week.

Maybe this is too personal a question to ask; but if you don't mind answering, which mining company do you work for that operates in Belo Horizonte? I'm just curious. Thanks.
