Hello, I am a new user on here.. my first question... it may have been answered before but when I request an upgrade from standard economy to business on a domestic flight, it says no upgrade seat available at this time. Do I have to wait a while? like up to a couple of days before the flight to upgrade?? It appears that there is still business seats available on the flight.

Welcome to AFF.

When requesting an upgrade, it will only be approved if there are FF redemption award seats available at that time. just because there are unsold business lcass seats does not mean those seats are available for upgrades.

If your upgrade request is not available before the dayt of your flight, and if you have access to the Qantas Club lounge at the departure airport, you can request an "On Departure Upgrde" (ODU) at the lounge and they have some additional flexibility to assign unsold business class seats for upgrades.
