Hi All

I posted an earlier thread as I have Jetstar flights to Beijing in May ($300 return) trouble is now I am not that keen on the 11 hour stop over in Singapore having recently been there for a week and thought that maybe we could do the return journey on points (have 800,000) in J Class - seems no availability showing for either QF or CX on the longer haul portions of the flights but there is in Y. We need to depart Beijing on the 17th or 18th May and a more direct flight home is now much more appealing considering we bought the original ones so cheaply. If I did either book an award flight back or even purchased some flights how does that affect the Jetstar portion, do we just not check in and any issues with that ? I am not sure if there are any other options but if we could earn some points and SC's that would be good too but not that sure the best way to do...any help would be much appreciated...cannot find any reviews yet of anyone who has done this return journey to Melbourne from Beijing??...Cheers

Catch a G train (High speed) from Beijing to Shanghai - 4 hours, done the trip 2 weeks ago except Shanghai to Beijing. QF fly PVG/SYD, easy to get an award in J PVG/SYD/MEL

Wow that was quick thanks and will have a look great idea........

I just done a quick award search on QF, there are truck loads of flights available in Y, J and F from MEL/PEK for May

Hi I just checked too (just need the one way either from Beijong or Shanghai if we do your suggestion for the train) say there is J available but seems to only be the Syd - Mel portion not the longer flights..am I missing something....looking now for 17th 18th or 19th May return only.

Bear in mind your flt out of Shanghai departs Pudong Airport - fast train from Beijing South train station arrives into Hongqiao Station - you then will need to get subway / taxi / bus to Pudong Airport - but fast train wonderful experience if you have not done it before.

9 flts daily or thereabouts PEK-PVG with various carriers for less than A$200 - check eLong or Ctrip to clarify. Also be aware MU use T1 in PVG whilst QF use T2 - CA and CZ use T2 also - you can walk across - 10 to 15 mins - whichever way you decide to go you need to check logistics but all is achievable.

Why not grab a one way to HKG then a JASA from there with the double SCs on offer as well.

yes, for them dates there's zip in J. Still, Y is better than JQ

Thanks all for your prompt replies very much appreciated and will look at now spending a week /5days Beijing then train to Shanghai as suggested for a few days and either do a Y back to Melbourne or look at the one way to HK and check a JASA from there to Melb. As fairly new to this can you advise who to use for the flight to HK and presume I will find the JASA On the Q website? Can you book J class on a JASA

JASA is a J any seat award, which on the 16th is 64000 points but goes to 200k for the rest of the week.

The other option is a JASA ex SIN.
