Howdy All,

Please feel free to point me in the direction of an existing thread if there is one, but i did do a bit of searching a couldn't find anything.

Considering DJ are not members of any of the larger alliances, why don't they setup their own "Vigin" alliance. I mean they already cover a good chunk of the world with their various airlines - aka Virgin Australia, Virgin Samoa, Virgin Atlantic, Virgin America.

Surely keeping it all within "the company" would be better for them rather than moving passengers onto "partner" airlines?

Plus the ability to push other family companies products IE virgin finance, virgin music, virgin mobile, virgin health clubs and so on would be a benefit to all involved?

The problem is that the Virgin Brand is just that, a Brand. All the various components that make up the brand are all owned independently with very little interlining in some cases. It would be difficult to get them all to come together to agree on one alliance, each airline has its own alliances, and in some cases they conflict with one another.

It would take a lot of to get them all into one alliance.

Three words: Economies of scale.

In its current form, it simply doesn't have the size, scale or reach to even consider becoming a viable alliance in its own right.

And that's before you even touch on the problems IT, management and and ownership briefly mentioned by The Rok.

A virgin alliance would have no footprint at all in Asia...a gaping great hole right there. In fact, the number of useful destinations covered by an all Virgin alliance would be very few indeed.

Hmmm, Australia, North America, Europe.

Covers all my requirements ;)

Interesting comments.. I wasn't aware about the virgin group being associated by Brand only. I was under the assumption they were still centrally owned in some way.

Surely there would be some economies of scale to be achieved by grouping together. As one group they would certainly have a stronger buying power for pretty much everything from Planes to IT systems.

Isn't DJ about to migrate onto the same system as VX? there's two down, what do VS use?

Maybe an alliance in the traditional form would be over the top, but surely they could come up with better inter company benefits to encourage passengers to stay with the "brand". Maybe a common FF program across the group?

Good point about the Asia region (wonder when we'll see the new Virgin Asia company?? haha), same goes for India as well really. I would say they could utilize there partners for these but then i guess they may as well go join an existing alliance hey...

Virgin Group still hold at least 25 percent of each airline, and they all interline with each other.
