[Confirmed] Qantas to return to Gold Coast?

Now now, he can be booked onto a QF codeshare, and only find out he is flying JQ when he arrives at the airport.

"Oh I'm sorry your highness, you are flying Jetstar today, please proceed to Terminal Two, it's just a short walk through the carpark"

Meh, who wants to fly with HRH anyway? That's one extra J seat that's removed from the upgrade pool (and then some for the royal procession)...

If one some of the Royal Family from Jordan or similar can charter a Jetstar aircraft to go OOL-SYD (years ago), for about 30 people and 200+ bags, i'm sure the prince can travel JQ!

That was only because their private 747 had to head home with a body for a funeral!

The Gold Coast/Tweed is Australia's sixth largest urban area so it really is absurd that QF do not fly there. I have to go there occasionally and I would pay extra to fly QF.

Did a bit of quick scouting on some ABS stats and it shows that GC (and Tweed) may be the sixth largest urban area in Australia but the average employment wage is lower than all of the state capital cities, Canberra, Cairns, Alice Springs and Townsville.

Doesn't seem so absurd now. Who wants Qantas to fly around a bunch of bums? :p :D

Not that I need to fly to/from the Gold Coast now but I may need to one day.

It would be good to actually have a decent choice rather than being forced onto one carrier or another through lack of choice.

Really wish this was true... Have to go there for work up in a while and despite our usual "QF only" policy have to fly Jet* or Virgin and absolutely HATE both, packed to the roof with bogans and their crying brats. These days, I usually fly to BNE on QF instead and drive down to the GC which is also quite a hassle.

Berlin, respectfully ... that is such a load.

Admittedly, I rarely fly JQ - but out of QF and DJ, the worst people I ever experience on a trip is either a bitter twisted crusty old QF ground staff or lounge dragon, or a fellow "W" in the WP lounge.

Bogans may be lower income and uneducated but more often than not they are much more decent people.

I used to really like the old QP there with it's windows overlooking a green tropical garden then further out onto the ramp and the aircraft.

Unless thing change dramatically one thing QP's seem to have over DJ Lounges is a larger beverage selection.

And the JQ lounge has alcohol available 24/7 so it’s even above the QP :p

If QF did come back to OOL, would you fly with them after they abandon you and left you with JQ (and DJ/VA, Tiger)????

(If l lived on the Gold Coast, l wouldn't as a matter principle - QF shafted me, l'll shaft 'em back.)

If they were comparable to out of BNE, sure, saves me a lot of hassle and driving… but if they cost more, it’d be a problem.

Please QA fly CNS to OOL, had to fly there on JQ with Bogans in toe recently, cramped in like sardine tin and paying for peanuts.

Lol, that's a good one! "Much more decent people", yea- right!

I for my part rather avoid those "decent" people but everyone to their own I'd say! :o

China Southern will be doing 4 direct flights a week in the next few years, maybe QF are looking at a direct China service themselves?

You mean 4 direct flights China to OOL?

If so, that sounds rather interesting.

Don't see QF quickly following up. If anything, give it to JQ (viz the already operational MEL-SIN-PEK) with either direct at best, or OOL-SIN in another pipedream.

Yes:

China Southern officials spent the best part of a week on the Gold Coast last month, inspecting the city in light of a plan for up to four direct flights a week from Guangzhou by 2015.

You do realise that QF flights from OOL (assuming they materialise, and I fully expect that they will) will just be filled with cashed up bogans? I can just see it now, being yelled down the the aisle to row 23 from the hallowed turf of row 3:

"Oi Shaarynn (insert intentionally misspelt name here), look at moi! Posing by these big seats with my LV handbag - so posh!! Nahh, got it at the markets! Who'd pay that much?"

Virgin has or will have much the same problem.

Except we usually see QF advertise with a higher price point. This helps discourage most bogans.

Cashed up bogans, despite namesake, have some modicum of order above other bogans. Besides, CUBs tend to be more as you go West. OOL isn't overrun by such yet.

And if bogans won't settle down, the other pax with a degree of order will do it for them. Just as we look down on the insolent business man trying to keep talking as long as he can on his mobile before he's told to turn off his device a tenth time by the FAs.

Nothing wrong with slapping a few people with a "sit down and STFU" notice where they deserve it. On bogan heavy airlines, however, there isn't enough discipline to make people do such a thing.
