Boeing has really let themselves be the follower instead of the market leader recently. The A320neo launch blew Boeing out of the water, so much so that AA ordered A320's.....

Don't forget that neither Airbus or Boeing could deliver the number of aircraft in the time frame AA wanted.

PER-LHR is only 16,000KM. If they did over 19,000KM's then surely with a full load of passengers and fuel it would be viable to do this route. I asked the question before and was told that is was not viable financially but SQ does Singapore to Newark non stop which is a similar distance and it is viable for them.

East Bound, it sounds like it's got a sure chance on paper. West-bound...

If this became a reality;
a) Long flight to be stuck in Y - I would do it in J/F
b) Would a LCC (like JQ?), even consider doing something like this (hypothetical Q)?

Perhaps, but I tend to this that was just a clause in their to keep Boeing happy...

The other issue is finding enough people willing to pay the premium cost for tankering all that fuel for the majority of the flight duration on that particular route. Technical capability of the aircraft is only part of the financial viability determination.

That would seem to be the mantra of most on Airliners.net. Also ugly planes are apparently no good.

It may be done to act as an advertisement for the airline, but in economical terms, I would still rather have a stop somewhere and carry extra freight rather than extra fuel to go non-stop. While it is possible to go further non-stop with improved efficiency, shorter sectors would also benefit from the said efficiency so there would have to be some massive improvements before the numbers would swing the other way.

A large portion of them are being leased. Plus I believe the manufacturers are also assisting with arranging financing.
