I saw an ad for Bose QuietComfort 15 headphones in the August edition of Qantas Australian Way magazine.

I went to the Bose website to find they are $500. Delivery is $10 or $20 for the express option. Ouch! And they are out of stock.

So I did a little surfing and found them on Amazon.com for US$300 plus $39 delivery (guaranteed to arrive by Friday and I have a trip to BKK coming up). The cheaper delivery option was about $14. They have them in stock.

So I bought them from Amazon. Total cost to me A$324. Still damned expensive headphones but I would never have paid $500.

We are really getting ripped off with Aussie prices. I used the 28Degrees card too, so the Aussie banks didn't get to gouge me either.

Yeah, you're not wrong. I'm in Salt Lake City at the moment and bought a pair from BestBuy yesterday for US$299.

I thought Amazon wouldn't ship them to Australia - that must have changed?

They won't ship everythng, including other headphones. The item you want shipped overseas has to be in the Globalshop section. Fortunately these were.

Nope, that was the sticker price. Sales tax was another ~6.5% - not sure exactly, I bought some other stuff with them :)

Good old aussie dollar pretty much compensates for the sales tax at the moment, so they probably ended up around A$302.
Shame I wasn't here last week, they would have been under A$300.

Out of interest there are several web-sites that offer a delivery service from the US if the US seller will not ship to AUS.
The Australian contact has his US contact buy and forward. The charge is about 15% of the value plus selected postage method.
Can't remember the web site I was looking at recently but a google search should pick one up.

There's many personal shopper sites but they are horrible value. 15% just to jump online and forward a parcel? Better value, and almost always successful is using a parcel forwarding service. There are already discussion pages on AFF, search for MYUS if you have an AMEX, otherwise many people seem to use Shipitto.

Generally, the only time the personal shopper sites are useful is when a website will not accept an overseas CC and you cannot fudge the address. (I reckon 90210 has more Aussies "living" there than locals).

Yeah I paid $280 usd in the baharmas with no Seles tax @1.06. You can get lucky occasionally.

Great headphones!!

Although hooked up to qf at low volume I get a light tapping noise, most strange.

Anyone get this?

I've had this a few times on QF with different phones - surely a coughpy QF issue and NOT a Bose problem.

Well, not that it's much difference in $$, but with the FX going south, I'm glad I bought them last week and not today .... I was going to wait until just before I was leaving (tomorrow).

My QC 15's just arrived from Amazon. As above great price at $299 plus shipping. They are the latest model with the iPhone cable included. I was intrigued by the little business card holder in the case which includes business cards for the headphones. Will be trying them out on trip to LHR soon.

These are really great headphones. So clear and with excellent and tight lows. Tried F headsets with QF, TG, CX, UA and EK. Not even close. Get a pack of 2 or 4 Lithium AAAs as they will last a lot longer than the Energizer AAAs. Also learn to switch them off or the battery dies very quickly.

yes so was I. you are supposed to hand them out when someone admires you headphones!!!!

If Bose want me to market their product they can cough up with a cheque first!!!

This usually happens if you have the Hi/Lo switch setting (on the jack that connects to the headphones) on Hi. Put the setting on Lo when in the plane and it will disappear. (You will need to increase the volume level).

Switch it back to Hi when using them with your mp3 player, computer, etc.
