I’m organizing a flight to Australia on business in November and not really sure who to fly. Has anyone got any recommendations? I won’t be flying business as my company stopped doing that! But I should be ok to get a premium economy or equivalent. Should I go with Qantas as they’re the Aussie airline, or is someone else a better bet?

One question to start with, where are you flying from, there may not be many options. And are you looking at cheapest options or those that offer good value or FF benefits? Whoops, thats more than one question, welcome to AFF .

LAX - preferably looking to find a balance between FF benefits and the standard of seating as compared to other options. I don't necessarily need to find the cheapest - but if there are two very similar, yes it will come down to price. Thanks for your help!

Beyond avoid UA, I don't think there is any real problem with any of the others.
QF \ VA are probably your safest bets as they have multiple transpac flights.

I've been on many a transpac QF flight (in Y \ Y+ and J) and they've all been ok. I've also heard good things about VA...
Air NZ via AKL is also an option.

Of course the next question is do you have any status with any airline in the states, as that may affect your decision.

Delta also fly to Aust form USA
And Air NZ via Auckland

I would recommend Qantas (QF) Premium Economy (Y+). I have flown it and it is a great product. Virgin Australia (VA) also has a Y+ which I haven't flown but apparently is good. I chose QF over VA as reviews were generally better and most came out describing QF as business light and VA as Economy plus.
QF is in program with American Airlines and VA is with Delta and I think Virgin America so that might have a bearing on your decision if you are in a program already.

Are you collecting points or do you have status with an existing carrier?

Otherwise, I'd recommend QF on an A380 flight or VA. NZ are good as well - but it means transiting AKL, which will add travel time.
