Well, finally got round to looking at the thread on new Velocity FF program last night – 66 pages!!! Didn’t read them all.
Well, I may miss out as I am still in a conundrum. I can understand why some of the DJ ‘faithful’ feel a little miffed about the status match but, that’s business! I can see the benefits quite clearly to make a move to the Velocity program.
So, I sat down last night and started assessing my situation which included checking partner airlines, routes, timings and ease of connections on my international travel. Because, above all, that is probably what is most important to me .... So I thought! I actually found myself also thinking about lounges, food quality (in air and in lounges!) and routes that only had economy class where I couldn’t use points to apply for an upgrade!
Back to my initial criteria of partner airlines etc – had to force myself – I found that in my situation, I would be forced into more flying/connection time with DJ to ensure I was on airlines where I would earn sc’s/points. Some of my destinations are difficult enough anyway!
I recently had a post where I was fretting because I had already reached platinum again before expiry but still had flights and wondered whether I should fly during this time with other carriers to try and achieve a higher status. Someone pointed out quite succinctly that I would still earn points with Qantas/partner airlines and should remember that Qantas ff MAY look at my background if the next year I was just short of achieving platinum again. This is some of what they said :

And someone else said “why not just enjoy the benefits and be content” and it was this comment that gave me a jolt as well. I am content in the main with my Qantas WP and I am also familiar with the program (not as familiar as some), and familiar with most airports that I travel to or through. I am not a snob nor do I 'own'
a silver spoon, but I do enough long haul to want to be comfortable and as relaxed as I possibly can be. For me, flying time is usually my only downtime .......... a time when my phone won't ring, I don't have to check emails constantly ........... so if I can travel in a class other than economy, it is very welcome to me! If I can move away from the busy terminal to a lounge ..... it is a great relief to me! A nice sit down meal in Melbourne or Sydney first class lounge is a treat .... in that it is usually such a busy few days and nights before I leave for my business trips, to sit and relax prior to the flight is important for me. So, to the peripherals : if I can retain QF platinum, the first class lounges in Melbourne and Sydney also do it for me vs DJ lounges in these places.
It is true, the Velocity program is very attractive and I hope Qantas takes a long, hard look and actually show their frequent flyers that they are making this effort ......... [/FONT]
