Hey guys,

Would really appreciate any answers to my question. I'm flying (return flight) to Vancouver (from Brisbane) in May next year with one other person.
Air Canada have a special at the moment - about $3750 return. Is this cheap? Should I buy now or should I wait for prices to drop further?

Thanks

That's for 2 people I suppose?

Air NZ has a Canada sale, I'm getting $1800pp return

Alternatively if you are willing to, several Chinese airlines often have quite cheap transpacific fares.

Nice find loobloke, however it seems that the special doesn't include the time period that we're travelling (May 2012).

You'll still find prices ~1800.

Transpacific will feature sales quite often. It's quite likely that there will be another sale down the track, especially since your travel is quite sometime away.

In MAY next year you can get KE BNE-YVR for about 1850 and combo QF and AC via SYD for 1918

I recently flew Air NZ to Vancouver and return to Perth. I was looking for a while and found that they were consistently cheaper. To get the cheap flights you need to check their site regularly until the "cheapy" comes up. The prices fluctuate quite dramatically, so it's worth checking back frequently, especially if you can be a little flexible with dates.

I know of people that fly with (I think) Air China from Brisbane every year and they find them the cheapest. Air Canada fly out of Sydney so you would have a domestic flight as part of that fare. I purchased Air Canada fares for around $1800 each 3 months ago. I use Last Minute.com.au to check fares.

I just saw Air Canada had $1200 YYZ-SYD via YVR return ex taxes.

Maybe also ex SYD??? Didn't check the dates though.

Came through on the websaver email.

I recently returned from Vancouver this past June via Auckland NZ in Economy. I have flown Qantas ( LAX) then transferred to Air Canada to Vancouver, also I have flown Air Canada from Sydney Direct to YVR... My last trip was with Air new Zealand Ex Brisbane return. I have been travelling to YVR for the past 14 years and I have to say Air New Zealand was the best trip Iv'e done tus far... To answer your question.. I don't think the price you quoted was cheap at all... I left Aus on June 3rd and after searching all the airlines online I saved $700.00 in fares by travelling with Air New Zealand... Personally I would not even consider any of the Chinese Airlines..Sometimes !! " what you pay for is what you get."

Hope this helps..

Have you had a look at a website like Skyscanner.net to see what is out there pricewise?

I don't know about travel in May-12, but Air Canada direct out of Sydney is about $1820 return during Feb to Apr, but look out for specials.

The big advantage I find is with AC (or NZ) you don't have to go through US customs as the flight goes direct to YVR, saving time and a whole lot of hassle.

AC generally have fares for around $1800 RT from SYD to YYZ so to YVR should be a bit cheaper. Might be cheaper to book from SYD and get yourself a Jetstar or Virgin fare from BNE to SYD? Annoying but could save you some money.

Good luck!

Really helpful forum, thanks for all the replies guys

I should have been clearer in my first post as the price I quoted was for two people.

The cheapest airfare at the moment that I've found is from Expedia.com, $1833p/p return Air Canada (1st May to 17th May).
I like how it's a direct flight from SYD.

Some of you have suggested prices can get cheaper so perhaps I'll wait and I'll keep a close eye on Air NZ and AC fares.
