Just spotted this story on NineMSN:

Qantas relaxed about Virgin revamp

Some choice quotes from Simon Hickey of Qantas Frequent Flyer in there. The good news is that Qantas pretty much has it right already and doesn't see the point in changing anything. Also none of you are planning on going anywhere else apparently.

And here I was thinking they would do something innovative and new encouraging competition - That arrogant attitude is just plain annoying....

The head of Qantas Airways' frequent flyer arm says the carrier is unfazed by Virgin Australia's revamped loyalty program.

Qantas Frequent Flyer chief executive Simon Hickey says satisfaction levels among its eight million members is at the highest it has ever been and the program is among the world's best.
brave words that may come back to bite...

Optus customers can now earn Qantas Frequent Flyer (QFF) points when they spend money on telco services due to a new deal between the two companies.
Big deal....

"We are not going to move from our strategy, which is a winning strategy and is forcing our competitors to reshape what they are doing and try to play catch up," Mr Hickey said on Thursday.

"We've been executing that strategy and we have been very busy with that strategy."
A winning strategy one day may be a losing strategy another....Velocity have really scored on providing anytime access for Velocity Gold and Plat members....
Virgin Australia, which is chasing a larger share of the corporate travel market, unveiled details of its top platinum tier last week as well as a range of new options such as family pooling of points and free upgrades.

Mr Hickey said he expected few of Qantas' top-tier frequent flyers to make the switch or change their flying behaviour.
"Why would I leave all that lifestyle behind - it's getting me a big pool of points - and decide to start my flying over again," Mr Hickey said.
"Mr Hickey, do you know what status matching means?"

If the article is indeed a true refection of what Mr Hickey has said, the arrogance of QF would really drive me to fly DJ more...

What is arrogant about doing nothing :?:

In Qantas terms "doing nothing' may well be an expression of humility. Their arrogance is usually most evident when they are "doing something" - such as making "enhancements". ;)

I did find that comment particularly clueless given the current status matching frenzy.
maybe you missed the sarcasm in the statement:idea:

I just skimmed over the article and think it's absolutely hilarious! QFF is supposedly "forcing our competitors....to play catch up" and experiencing its highest levels of member satisfaction than ever. Has someone been living under a rock? With 8 million members and a lot more status flyers they obviously they have the big advantage, but it would be foolish to be bullish about it. "Why would I leave all that lifestyle behind..." - heard about status matching, Simon?

Very clear now that QF take their WP's loyalty and spend with QF for granted.

Big mistake:

Regardless of what a minuscule percentage of the 8 million frequent fliers post on AFF about how bad this is (remember I got banned for my views before flaming me), the truth is right here....

Qantas shares closed up 2.5 cents at $1.595.

Thats ALL that matters. Loose 1,000 or even 10,000 members to VA - do we honestly think that will hurt the bottom line?

Moaners and whingers (im in cat 1) get over it, if you want to abandon ship, go for your life but do it quietly please, im getting a QF/VA headache...

But (coming from one who has experienced the collapse of Air NZ and seeing his life savings dissolve), is it fair to bag the Leprechaun for QF losses through the GFC? Other airlines across the world collapsed during this time, look at the US. Look at what my high risk super fund with (ex) ING did - loose loose loose as did most other peoples. You cannot seriously blame the little fellow with the bucket of gold at the end of the rainbow for these problems.

Amazing QF can declare a "profit" each year, yet not pay their shareholders a dividend? What was CX's profit during the same period?

As for seeing money go up in smoke, I had a LOT of money in various warrants (day trader for 6 years) when the twin towers went down. ASX closed down and my warrants exited valueless. So been there, done that.

Who cares. thats like asking what RIO or BHP profits were like. Non event, non comparable.

A better measure would be AA or NZ

Non government sponsored airlines. (Well NZ is kinda ;) but not in operations or fuel levy breaks! )

I do really wish QF all the best as I will maintain both VA and QF Platinum and do expect to visit the QF Flounges many times. I also look forward to the VA F/WPs lounges as they become a player in *A.
