Seems a little biased. They keep saying "an airport so dangerous it had to be shut down" with footage of Kai Tak, but Kai Tak was closed because they needed a bigger airport to handle the increased traffic.

Yes, it was hard, but not that dangerous, unless you landed in a typhoon.

That being said, courchevel looks like a bit of fun. I recall Nadi had a smaller dip, haha.
 
Missed the show but taking off at Brampton Island in an overloaded twin commanche was my extreme moment, "up" was not a word the plane seemed to understand, and I was not the pilot. Pity no one operates 767s in HTI anymore, that was pretty extreme!
 
I was hoping to see some PNG airstrips but I guess Nepal is higher and has the same characteristics.
 
Thanks for this am In WA so 2 hour delay was able to make it with only 10 minute loss at number 7 Airport the ski slope and bump at the end.

Missed it but will watch it on line later,

I wander if Suva Suva in Fiji is on it.

When i was there the staff had to heard all the cows down to the end of the run way so we could land and for the plan to take off.

I thought he said Chek Lap Chok...in any case I suspect he just didn't want to say Kok. :D

I think GIB did rate 'higher' than Kai Tak (which was a wonderful experience - at least till I got off the plane and into the airport). LSI (Sumburgh, Shetland) also has a road crossing the runway, though I dare say it is way less busy even than GIB.

An entertaining show.
 
Have done old HKG and GIB, and even walked and driven across the GIB runway.
TNT also looks pretty crazy.

What I didn't realise about GIB is it is made difficult because the Spanish refuse to allow planes landing at GIB to fly over their airspace, and that the Rock can create some fairly interesting wind conditions on approach and on landing.

FYI. There is a brand new terminal being built at GIB that will allow exit to either Spain or the UK (Gibraltar) and also a tunnel under the runway for road traffic. I have some relatives living in Spain but working in Gibraltar and they do say the tunnel will improve things but the journey time depends on how nice the Sapnish are feeling that day and how intensive the passport checks are.
 
Have been in current HK airport control tower have friend who works there, was amazing to say the least, had plane taking off and landing in busy periods every 90 seconds or so. He also worked in the old control tower too, told me all sorts of stories and the pressure flight controllers were under.
 
It looks like it is time to head to the Carribean. Some interesting airports down there! A drink at the sunset bar and some fence riding :D prior to heading to St Barts...

Dont believe him, its a myth they perpetuate to ensure the wages are kept up :confused:. Sydney is actually busier than HKG by movements.

I'm planning a trip to SXM for Dec 2011. From the notes I made while planning my trip last night:

Thu 1 Dec
12:20: AA 757 arrival
13:35: Corsair 747 arrival
13:55: AA 757 arrival
14:45: AF A340 arrival

Fri 2 Dec
12:40: KLM 747 arrival

Those are just some of the bigger planes; AA flies from MIA and JFK, KLM flies direct from AMS, AF from CDG and Corsair from ORY. JetBlue also fly there from SJU, which is where I'll be coming from.

Said "were under" not the busiest, be more worries at the old HK airport than most as it was rather dangerous.
