FAs permitting economy PAX to use PE after takeoff

I think a curtain would look naff, but I do think you need sone kind of physical barrier to prevent those who aimlessly gravitate towards the front. A lot of the time it's just autopilot, because few people automatically get out of a seat and then do 180 turn. At least with something there, the mind is engaged a little and you'd have to stop for a second and think why it's there.

There is already a curtain, but it's up the front. To close off the galley area. My SYD-OOL flight this evening was only 1.25 hours or so and as such the curtain didn't close at all. Might be different on longer flights.

To be honest the maroon colored curtain is the one thing I don't like about the new aircraft. I think it clashes with the purple and the red in the new uniforms.

I've been wondering, I've never seen the curtain be closed on my flights. On JQ they always close the curtain. Must have different procedures on DJ.

They closed it on the one flight I had on VH-YFE.

It was on SYD-MEL. The longest I've flown DJ is only MEL-BNE anyway!

Virgin don't close the curtains (not sure about the A330, but for 737/ejets this is the case). Older aircraft also have these curtains, so it's nothing new.

After texting a friend, I'm told the official words is. "Only in an emergency" However, not all Cabin Crew follow this rule.

What help would a drawn curtain be in an emergency? I'm tried to think of any possible emergency situation that would be assisted with a curtain.

Passenger who is medically distressed perhaps? Emergency in the coughpit requiring the hatch to remain open? My understanding is that they only OPEN the curtain in an emergency (and arrival/departure).

That is quite right. The curtains obviously could be used to give privacy to guests who may require medical attention in the galley areas.

I think this thread is long enough. Its pretty much all been said. But personally I think that Gold's should be upgraded to PE if the seats are going to be otherwise empty. Nothing wrong with rewarding someone who obviously travels a lot. There may be the argument that if you can just be a Gold and buy flexi then why bother paying for PE. But lets face it, with the number of PE seats available and the number of Gold's you still have to be lucky. In the long run you have Gold's feeling like they are rewarded for their business from time-to-time.

Its no different to those paying for flexi and then getting nothing better than the happy hour flyers paying a fraction of the price. Maybe pre allocation of seats should only be allowed for silver and above and everyone else gets whats left at checkin. Then at least you getting a proper seating preference for your status.

I was preselected 3D for OOL-SYD tomorrow. Only trouble is, I'm taking the family for a shopping day in Sydney, so had to for-go 3D for row 11 to be with my better half and the kids (my hand genuinely shook when I made the change). I'll be really unimpressed if we turn up in the morning and it's another BSI.........in fact, I'll probably cry :shock:.

DJ 500 @ 0600

We're planning to drop into the SYD lounge for a quick breakie and we're returning on DJ 543 @ 1910 so I guess we'll be back in the SYD lounge about 1700.

I did make mention it was a shopping trip! I'm keen to take up the Plat. AMEX (despite my hatred for AMEX) but my wifes love of shopping has me worried :shock:
