According to a source on another forum (he's at the SQ-VAust press conference), SQ has confirmed that the alliance will also extend to their regional subsidiary SilkAir.

Re: VA to partner with SQ

All I know is John Borghetti has said today that
the Singapore Airlines alliance "completes our major airline alliance strategy"
and
Borghetti also deflected questions about whether Virgin was looking at joining Star Alliance, Singapore Airlines' international alliance, saying, "the relationship between Virgin Australia and Singapore AIrlines shouldn't be confused with anything else other than that."
"You know, we've got so much stuff going on at Virgin Australia that that is really not in our thinking at the moment. That is something we'll think about in 2012 and beyond."

and as I said I see no reason to not believe him.

Re: Singapore airlines and virgin australia unveil long-term partnership

5 set matches don't have tie breakers in the last set. =)

Indeed - it's a battle of endurance to the death, with the lead and momentum swinging adversely back and forth turn to turn.

Re: # Virgin Australia announces strategic alliance with Singapore Airlines

How bout five fingers on a hand, five members on a basketball team, five letters in the word.... ;)

Five letters in the word - VA announces they have purchased TIGER airways and will improve its on-time reliability and operate in a JQesque manner on key leisure routes :?:

I really hope Virgin join *A, that way it'll keep QF honest... This really could be a game changer... and then if Vigrin land Coles and Shell as a partner... QF might actually be in trouble...

I like the clubhouse in LHR... maybe it's time to visit there again =)

Personally i reckon all the momentum is in one direction at the moment.

If it's a tennis match, Qantas took two early sets with ease 6-2 6-1. Third set went to VA 7-6 (a horrible line call that will be forever known as the "Jetstar incident") and i think VA are current 5-1 up and serving in the fourth. A long way from winning but definitely have the momentum on their side while the other mob are looking ragged as we head into the decisive fifth set. :)

Wow, totally out there and maybe, potentially, possible. What do others think? Maybe VA will take over their routes and Tiger will become the new SingAir long-haul cheaper network. Hmm. I would imagine VA would take it over completely. They are just integrating everything, they won't want another "new" brand.

First it was the VA name, then this new agreement, possible Tiger agreement?, and future *A?

Stranger things have happened.

Why not,Tiger isn't using them any more.

Re: VA to partner with SQ

Finally, something for the people of Perth to get excited about. Maybe now I can get to Europe without having to travel to Mel or Syd.

JB, AJ, *A, OW and all the alliances on the side are playing a multi billion dollar hand of Poker. We get told pieces of what is in those hands that are being held very close to their players chests.

To me this is just another episode of Bold and the Beautiful, watching to see who ends up sleeping with who, what past relationships are broken to form new ones and what half truths are told to grease the gears. Time for more buttered popcorn. ;)

My goodness... all these VA annoucements are making me giddy!!

Great news - good on ya VA!!

Interesting.

In theory, say you added all of Tiger into the new combined VA, it isn't really massively bigger, is it? Or at least not so big that it is larger than natural growth would soon allow...

You can lay out your Australian, Pacific and regional maps and with what planes you have, you plan capacity and routes. Maybe a couple go, maybe some new ones, different frequency, but the opportunity for a complete relaunch and refresh. Totally in line with what has been going on of late.

Not going to happen, first off I can't see any reason why Virgin would want anything to do with A320's that may have dodgy maintenance records (if you believe that Tiger was given show cause notices) second there would possibly be competition authority issues and the third is that Virgin would have to convince Tiger's parent to sell their stake..
Nah,can't see it.

Re: VA to partner with SQ

There has been huge speculation that ANA was a likely partner for VA. And JB's past comments, even though indicating that 1 partner was a possibility, that 2, 3 or even 4 were likely. No reason to add the latter numbers if there wasn't some truth to it I would have thought.

Wonder if the SQ partnership cover areas like Japan or South Korea?

I think you just need to consider that Tiger is an autonomus organisation that will be left to live or die by itself. While SQ may have an investment in Tiger, it is certainly not a SQ subsidiary in the way that Jetstar is to Qantas.

Some good points there Nigel and Mark.

I am not so well informed about the more intricate details of how airlines operate, so I value your insights.

I do see how VA would not necessarily want to go down that path.
