After flying so much, you'd think I'd know the answer to a simple "baggage allowance" question, but embarrassingly, I don't.

This time around I'm booked on QF302, and need to know if my SG status allows for the QF extra baggage allowance; previously I've done BA009 with only 11kg, so it hasn't mattered; this time though, I need to take some extra gear back to AU and really don't want to get stung if I can help it.

I have always been told that the operating carriers rules apply. I can't find anything on the BA site regarding extra allowance for OWS... maybe give BA a buzz to make sure. I actually have the same problem, I'm travelling QF2 LHR BKK, couple of days BKK and then QF302 to SYD. Do I get QF allowance or BA allowance halfway through the trip? Could be quite messy...

Finally found the BA number here in BKK, and called. QF302 has an allowance of 23kg, plus my extra SG allowance of 10kg for a total of 33kg - but has to be split ". . . . . not all one bag."

So, seems booking as QF302 will pay off - almost chose BA9 (as my partner flying on award flight credited to BA9), but changed my mind at very last second.

Now I just have to see if it actually works in theory on the 6th. . . . .;)

I am genuinely surprised about that! Good luck at the airport.

Me too! Luckily, a friend is dropping us off - if they decide to charge excess, back to the apartment the offending bag goes!!!!

A quick update. I decided to re-check T&C (knowing how things are here in Asia) and sent off an email to BA.

First reply was an almost verbatim of their website information - they didn't read my question at all! I replied and asked again about QF Gold/OW Emerald status allowance and the next reply told me to contact BA TH.

Got a free 10 mins yesterday to check with the BA office here in BKK - answer was the exact opposite to the original - sorry no extra allowance for QF Gold/OW Sapphire.

On a side note, the agent asked if I'd like to change to QF2 so that I could gain the extra allowance: "There are still seats available on this flight." But I had to decline - my partner is on an award flight with BA9 (only one available at the time) and think I'd be in trouble if I changed to a totally different aircraft. . . . . . .:mrgreen:
