Hi all,

I've called up ScamWatch and they said that they cannot deal with it and that this is a police matter.

I just went to the local police station and the policewoman said that this is not a crime yet and she can't see how it would be. If he went to the airport and the ticket is not valid, then it would be a fraud and a police matter. However, it seems now that everything is legitimate. As long as we pay for the airline ticket, its fine. If it is a stolen credit card matter, then it is a matter between QANTAS and Final Flight. In any case, she said that last minutes tickets are usually sold at such low prices.

The police recommends for my dad to leave tomorrow and see if it is a valid ticket. The risk is that he won't get on a flight. She said this is what she would do. No one is going to arrest him or anything because we really did purchase it.

When did police become experts on air travel? How on earth does the policewoman know that last minute tickets are "usually sold at such low prices"? If anything, it's the complete opposite as I'm sure many people here on AFF can vouch for.

With all due respect to yourself, the advice you were given by the police seems about as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike.

So the police recommend that your Dad leave tomorrow & "see if it is a valid ticket"? Now, just on the off chance the 'agent' has cancelled this ticket & your Dad is left high and dry with a booking only & no valid ticket required for travel, what course of action to the police recommend to recover the funds you have paid out via bank transfer?

Does it then become a police matter & no doubt they they'll be full of helpful advice on how you can obtain the money back from Final-Flights?

Cops don't care about this stuff.

Leave them to catching people going 3km/h over the speed limit

That's all they are good for really

Department of fair trading site to make a complaint when your dad doesn't get on the flight tomorrow
Make a complaint : Department of Justice and Attorney-General

Also
Reporting a SCAM on the QLD Office of Fair Trading

ACCC Scam Watch - Home

(Sorry if the links have been posted already - Sorry, my bad mdy_118)

I would be ringing fair trading given they dont have a registered business name in QLD, which is one law broken already

Do I need to register a business name? : Department of Justice and Attorney-General

I've called ScamWatch and they were the one that recommended me to contact the police, hence I did.
ScamWatch asked for their ABN number and said that this was registered and legit business within Australia, hence they referred me to the police.

Wow. This just gets more and more interesting. If this is a fraud (and I do suspect so), it will be through one of several ways:

- Tickets are "bought" via Frequent Flyer points (unlikely due to the flexibility shown with tickets).
- Tickets are being ticketed by a travel agent (ex-staffer, staffer committing fraud, 3rd party with access to their systems).
- Staff travel benefits are being used (unlikely again due to the mix of airlines offered).
- Stolen or false credit card data being used to ticket the flights.
- There is a company with HUGE flight purchase benefits, and a staffer is using their account to purchase the tickets.

Either way, I really can't see tickets being available for the prices I'm seeing in this thread... I tend to think it's a dodgy credit card issue.

I've contacted QANTAS Security who refused to deal with me and referred me to the Reservations team. Finally through to them, they said this was not made via Travel Agent but through QANTAS itself.

Funny how all their "Social Media" links just go back to Qantas as well...

It's too cheap
It's too good to be true
It's a scam
Using a .com address and not .com.au (much harder to get a .com.au address, and anyone can get a .com address)
Postcode for their website registration 6693 does not exist

IMO

- Staff travel benefits are being used (unlikely again due to the mix of airlines offered).

Nah wouldn't be that.. We can't change names on our staff travel for 6 months and has to be booked online via the staff travel website!

No such suburb as Springvale in WA and no such postcode exists,if it was a legit business why would anyone use a false address?

Pretty odd as a travel agent would generally use their own res system (Galileo, Amadeus etc) to make a reservation on QF would they not?

So it's done direct through QF more likely via the website although could've been a phone booking direct with them.

It 'the agent' has just done the booking over the web it couldn't be some whiz bang super duper offer it would just be the best available published airfare which would be available to anyone it would seem.

The clincher for me was offering full comprehensive travel insurance - that just isn't going to happen in the real world.

Ok I've just finished my telephone call to QANTAS Reservations.

They weren't very helpful and put me on hold A LOT. They kept asking questions, nothing about the actual company i.e. Final Flights at all and actually asked for our contact details. Weird!

All they said was "do not make payment to this company. We'll take it from here. Go make bookings from elsewhere".
