Liklihood of being transferred to an earlier connecting AA flight in DFW?

Hi all

I am booked on QF into DFW arriving at ~2pm, connecting through to MCO on an AA flight departing at 7.30pm. I would have much preferred to be on the AA DFW-MCO flight departing at 5pm or at 6.20pm, but at the time of booking these flights were over $300 per person more than the flight at 7.30pm. Frustratingly, all of these flights now appear to be the same price.

I assume if I try to change through QF I'll be hit with the $80pp change fee which isnt overly appealing.

What is the liklihood of being transferred to one of the earlier flights by AA in DFW if I ask nicely? Is there an opportunity to speak to someone from AA between clearing customs and re-checking bags for the onward flight?

Thanks in advance:)

If I was in your position, I would change the flight now and pay the $80 to QF.
I don't know what if any OW status you have. When you land in DFW, assuming there are seats left on the DFW-MCO you would need availability in the same fare bucket as you have on the later flight or pay the difference to AA.
This happened to me when I changed an AA flight to a later time MIA-MCO.
I was travelling F as a OW Emerald, and paid the difference of $66 USD
I may have been unlucky, but I wouldnt risk this again.
YMMV of course
