So I've decided I'm going to make use of the qantas double status credit promotion and head off to Fiji in March flying business class. At this stage I'll head out on 24th March ($763 or so booked through australian site one way) and head back on 28th ($500 when booked one way on qantas Fiji Site) Will just get the direct NAN-BNE flight home, so will work out being almost 4 full days.

My question is, where is the best place to stay ?I've done a heap of searching but can't really work out where I should be going. Quite a few people by the looks of it are saying stay away from Denarau Island.

I'm not too concerned about price at all... I guess I'm looking for some activites to do other than just sitting around a pool all day. Wouldn't mind somewhere with nice beaches, perhaps the ability to snorkel etc. I'll probably take my girlfriend with me, we are both 30 with no kids.... so dont need to worry about keeping anyone else too happy (other than her I *suppose*)

So, any suggestions from those that have been before?

Cheers
Hayden

Stay away from Denarau, not taking kids I would suggest Matamanoa Island Resort - you will spend a couple of hours travelling by ferry each way to the island though.

Is there a link for the double status credits - those might come in handy - and how many SC's do you get? as I can't seem to get any sense out of the SC calculator on the QF webpage. If your timetable gives you a few spare hours on the mainland then I can highly recommend a trip to see the Garden of the Sleeping Giant which is pretty close to Nadi.

If you have been targeted you will have received the email re double SCs, for the NAN run ex BNE its an extra 200 round trip if you go BNE-MEL-NAN in J, or 520 round trip.

Out of interest, why are people saying to stay away from Denarau Island?

Cheers for that, I'm on the west coast so I possibly haven't been targeted. Pity as I have a week to kill in March between assignments and that would have been a good excuse to visit F1J1.

Indeed.

I love Denarau - it's a great place to go relax. I usually stay at the Sheraton.

Granted it's not the "true Fiji experience", but it's still a nice resort.

If you want to get out, you can do what I do - hire a 4WD and go exploring. So far I've made it up to Tavua in the North, Suva in the East and inland as well.

Where'd you get $760 from? I don't get anything under $825...

at the risk of not sounding like a true AFF'er, look at that departure time!
As I'm in Sydney, I would have to stay in Brisbane O/N to catch that 0550am flight from Bne. So I decided to do the Bne-Mel leg the evening before, stay at Mel O/N instead, then take a more acceptable (timewise) flight from Mel to Syd to Nan....

Does anyone get the double SC points if they happen to book it or do you have to know the secret handshake and be royally invited?

It's a targetted email offer to get double SCs...

See post on first page, but you needed to get the email....

you could try go to the link they provided and see if you can register anyway? Frequent Flyer - Earning Points - Fly - Double Status Credits
Cheers for that - it appears as though I'm not worthy - "Unfortunately you are not eligible to register for this promotion." - I never knew before this that QF offered special promotions to some and not others - kind of disappointed in them really that they would do this.

Just went to book this, thought I'd double check my girlfriend had registered for the promo (she got the email too) and it said the promotion has closed! Even though it says book by the 21st... which I would think ended at midnight.

Spoke to someone at QFF who said it was still valid, however they can't do anything about it other than wait until the morning and ring the service centre. Should be an interesting call

Yes dear, that's right, the date traditionally changes at midnight.

I agree. Also, the JASA's that everyone keeps talking about: having tried for 6 months to match what others are able to get, I'm now convinced that you have to have some status (Gold?) to be able to get the low JASA's. Me (Bronze) - no matter how I try, I would loose most of my carefully hoarded points to get a JASA. Recently one that I was going to book (Hobart / Sydney / Canberra return) was going to cost 227,000 points (and I have the proof). Classic awards were available on each leg, so that wasn't the problem.

I now don't even bother to try for a JASA. I wonder if someone could prove that Qantas was false advertising - not revealing all conditions of a JASA.

Another reason to use up all my points on one long os business flight, then move to Star Alliance. With them, you can fly around Canada, which OW doesn't. The lack of a Canadian airline is a real problem for me with family and friends in Vancouver, Winnipeg, Toronto and Halifax.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
