I was flying AKL > LAX > ORD > LHR > NCL

I'm currently sitting in the Galleries Flounge which I think is actually a more pleasant place to be than the Sydney Flounge... this place is awesome... so spacious...

Anyway... I was told by both QF and AA staff that I was to pick up my checkin luggage at LHR clear customs and recheck in... well... My bag didn't turn up at LHR... I asked for the last scan point it was ORD... now they're saying it should turn up in NCL... like... i have no confidence it's going to turn up in NCL...

also it wasn't linked to my ticket... so this bag has been flying without a pax... isn't this a security risk?

Bags go missing all the time unfortunately, but they almost always turn up eventually. I don't think I've ever heard of anything losing their bags permanently. Did you have any missed or changed connections? That can cause them to go missing.

I flew into KL today after an MCI-DFW-LAX-HKG-KUL. Very, very surprised to see my bag at the end.

It should show up, but in the meantime, if your travel insurance covers it, go get yourself some nice new clothes. :)

Cheers,
- Febs.

I've heard / read somewhere before about bags being automagically transferred from international to domestic flights going via LHR -- I wouldn't be so surprised if your bag shows up in NCL.

Well if the last carrier into LHR was AA and the bags dont turn up at NCL this may be of interest-
Delta fined $100,000 for misleading baggage brochure
"Editor's note: If passenger damages from lost luggage or delayed luggage are less than $3,300, the travelers are authorized the full amount of compensation, regardless of any limitations the airlines try to enforce. Should there be any questions, file a complaint with DOT immediately. Here is the form.]"
But hopefully like ours twice on the last DONE they will turn up at NCL or soon after.

Several things here...

- I thought it's convention that regardless of who lost your bag or where it was lost, it's the last carrier's responsibility. In your case, I assume it's BA that is flying you from LHR to NCL? This is assuming everything is on the one ticket.

- Most insurance policies have a time period before it kicks in so to give the airlines a chance (and to save themselves money). Don't order than Armani suit just yet.

- If it's still not there at NCL, ask BA for something to tie you over. Most will have some toileteries and a little money (refunded after receipts) for some clothes.

- Baggage transfer can be confusing even for the staff. I take extra caution nowadays and generally 'short check' my bags if I have a long journey like that. If you've time and are really worried, ring up Lost Luggage at LHR. They've better tools to trace it. Some lounge people don't really care.

Good luck.

I agree, and also think you will find your bags at NCL. 2 years ago, I flew Syd-Sin-Lhr-Gla, and I collected my bags at Gla. Only had to worry about getting myself from T4 to T5 at LHR which took nearly 2 hours:evil:

Its been a few years since I did the LHR transit enroute to NCL. But each time (at least three time that I can recall) I have not had to collect bags at LHR and re-check them. They were tagged to NCL and collected in NCL.

In theory you are supposed to declare anything that may be required by customs when you arrive at NCL. They had "green" and "red" channels after baggage collection. But I don't recall even seeing anyone monitoring the channels and just exited straight into the terminal and then the car park. I am pretty sure my "driver" was able to meet me in the baggage collection area.

Sure enough it was at NCL... and there was no customs to check what was in my bag... odd...

Now i'm annoyed that I lost 1 hr of my life looking for the bags at LHR... but very glad to have my luggage...

I think this is pretty standard at smallish UK airports. I've flown to GLA via LHR on numerous occasions and not once seen anyone from customs.
Great news about your luggage, enjoy the trip !
