I would be surprised if it was dragged into an Airbus v Boeing debate. However is it co-incidence that both "engine issues" were on RR engines? I don't know, but am waiting for the reports of both before I speculate

I think the Qantas spokeswoman may need a rethink:

A Qantas spokeswoman said there was "no suggestion it's come from our aircraft".

Apparently the Labor government backed unions are already on the case spreading wildfire regarding maintenance being done offshore.

As was correctly pointed out by a ring in expert on Sky News, this is a manufacturing problem on an engine that has probably done less than 10K hours.

Hmmmm, the Qantas bashing begins - this could have happened to a SQ, LH or EK 380 easily - Rolls Royce must be cringing - oh well, the unions wont pick on them while Qantas survives!

Yes it does but it shouldn't. Is it manufacturing, maintenance or environmental ?

Important to get to the bottom of these things, rule them in until you can rule them out.

Geoffrey Thomas is one of the better aviation experts out there. Compare this to the Singapore clip Skynews played straight after him. They labelled the debris as parts of the tail?

It will be interesting to see what Mr Purvinas comes out and says after this. However I am more interested to wait and see what jb747 says.

Couldn't agree with you more. The problem is, their 'scare' campaign is paying off. A friend of mine messaged me and said 'that's what you get when you send maintenance offshore'. I went off about how much BS that was.

I'm all in favour of keeping work here where possible, but saying it's because overseas labour is 'dodgy' is simply false.

Look at the frenzy once this guy who was onboard posted the pic on yfrog, all these "I'm a journalist call me" "I'm a journalist can we call you" comments.

Mate, just be prepared for your 15 minutes of fame & get ready to be misquoted and made to look like a sook! If you tell them it was no big deal you'll suddenly become "a terrified passenger said....."

CNN interviewed Ulf Waschbusch who said the crew did a good job keeping everyone calm, and the pax were fairly calm, so that’s a good job!

Had to exit from one air-bridge though, that would have taken a while.

Do we know where the maintenance is carried out for the A380? I will fly on any aircraft serviced by CX/SQ/Lufthansa.

The unions will have a field day here, and the facts will be overlooked.

How many hours has the engine done approximate 2000hrs?

Qantas has the lowest inflight shutdown rate in the world. The lowest turn back rate in the world and the lowest aborted takeoff rate in the world. They operate over a 1000 flights per week.

Their record is impressive.
