Hi all , have just looked at the 75000 points bonus offer on the platinum amex card - does that translate directly to 75000 qff points ? It is very hard to understand their terminology what with Ascent programs etc. If it does translate to qff points i think the $900 per year could be justified .... maybe.... also is their concierge up to scratch ? My Citibank platinum sends me straight to the Philippines which can be frustrating !

Yes. The 75k points go into an Ascent Premium points account which can be transferred to Qantas.

Jiminy Cricket! What else does one get for shelling out the 900 bucks?

When does this offer expire & is there a link for it?

I got the Amex 50,000 point bonus thanks to the thread on this site :D which cost $450.00 & included a free flight on QF, however not ex DRW.

When I rang up to cancel & said that I couldn't justify paying $450.00 pa when I couldn't use the flight ex DRW, Amex offered to halve the annual fee & pointed out that I could now fly ex DRW on DJ to BNE or PER return.

Gee , it seems a discussion board is not a discussion board , but , instead a forum for cheap sarcasm . Questions/advice are accepted gladly without the sarcastic anonymity . Then again you might just feel the need to get another informative post out . maybe someday i will have 600 odd posts too

Dare I suggest you wouldn't know cheap sarcasm if it hit you in the face. :-|
Seemed to be a request for assistance on the platinum charge card to me.

Jiminy cricket - sounds to me like someone is taking Kinsley Amis at his word !!

No one attacked you personally, so no need for you to attack anyone back.

Oh, right, I see, you read the first 2 words of the post and ignored the following 60 odd words

It's unfortunate that you took my post as sarcastic Sid as that was the furthest thing from my mind. What difference does it make how many posts anyone has got?

I simply want to know what benefits you get for your $900.00 that's all.

FWIW whenever I have to speak to Citibank in the Philippines they've always been more than helpful.

Would it have been less sarcastic of me to have only had 10 posts? Now that's sarcasm! :p

Sid, I wouldn't spend $900 for 75,000 points. If it was $600 for 75,000 points p.a. I might consider it, but still probably wouldn't shell that out.

The other thing I'd be mindful of is the offer (its one of the ads on this site) indicates you get the 75,000 points once, but you pay the $900 every year:shock:.

Cheers skip

Might depend on what one intends to use the points for, and for each of us this and hence value offered is different.

If one assumes no value for free flight, or travel insurance 75,000 point SQ will get you:

* 75/127.5th of a Business Class Return ticket on SQ
* 50% of a Business Class Return on Thai
* two Business Class Returns to New Zealand, or various Pacific Islands. 3 in economy
* approximately one Economy return ticket to Europe.

Note the above would all have taxes to be added, but all cases would still give you value for $900. The economy ticket not so much.

But yes $600 sweetens it...and if you value the Travel Insurance...then $300-ish for 75,000 points is great value. Add in the free flight to New Zealand or Cairns and it looks even better...

1/ Amex seem to be negotiable on the $900

2/ If you want to keep any points built up you can just swap to a cheaper Amex.ie $149.

3/ You can also just cancel and make sure that the points are just already used, or swept to your FF program prior.
