Hi guys,

I'm the USA for 6 weeks. I want to get a local sim so save money on the roaming $$

Anyone know the best one for calling back to Australia??

Thanks :)

Plenty of choices such as Verizon,T-Mobile,AT&T etc
Personally last time I was there went with Verizon, excellent coverage and was calling a friend mostly who had Verizon, so free minutes.
Keep in mind if you are going to be calling back to Aus alot, it may be a idea to pick up a international phone card as well from Walmart,7/11,etc

I was in the States for 4 weeks late last year, and I did a fair bit of research then, and I picked up a $19 Pre-Paid Cell Phone from RadioShack on the T-Mobile network. Calls were about the same to call US numbers as they were to call home in AUS. I think the only difference was a higher connection fee. I've still got the phone, so when I go back in a month or so, I'll just get it reactivated and away I go. Topping up the phone was so easy also, so you shouldn't ever run out of credit.

Whereabouts in the states. This can make a difference.

If all over try AT&T. Check to see if they charge to receive an sms on the plan you are considering.

Cheers spruce

I've done a long summary of things in there as well as other peoples experiences.

You can buy AT&T or T-Mobile SIM cards.

You can also buy Roaming SIM cards that will give you coverage on both networks.

If you're after Data, it's a little more tricky as AT&T is your only real option (although there are some MVNO's that are doing some things for around $60USD/month pay as you go no contract)

Check that form out though, more info on that there.

I'm in Colorado

I don't really need data - but it would be a bonus - I might go into a AT&T store and quiz them :)

Thanks for your replies :)
