Man puts on 31kg, refused entry to UK

A British man who put on 31kg was denied entry to the UK and forced to spend three months from Amsterdam because he looked different from his passport photograph.

Derrick Agyemen, 37, was returning home to Britain after spending a weekend with friends in August 2006 when border control officers stopped him, Fox News reports.
They said his fuller lips and ears did not match his passport photograph — which was taken nine years ago.

Notably vague article there. I’d love to see actual photos of him at the time compared to his passport photo, but as a UK citizen (I presume) he should have been able to go to the consulate for help and sort things out. Surely some DNA sample from his home compared to his DNA sample would prove who he is.

And to all those that dislike ID cards and fingerprints being taken and such, here’s a good reason, though how many POM’s go on holiday to get fat? :p

If you saw them in the costa del sol you would say most of them....

Bet he looked more like his passport photo than I did! I got my passport when I was 18, and was much bigger back then and had different hair - it looks NOTHING like me today. ALWAYS got strange looks all over the world, but never got questioned.

It'd still be valid actually, although I had it replaced earlier this year so I could get the full 3 years on my next APEC card. I finally look like my photo! :D

Cheers,
- Febs.

I wonder if smartgate would have let him through? It boasts that these sort of changes don't affect its ability to detect who you really are.

Also, it doesn't make any smart alec comments.
