Qantas Airways Ltd says it will pay a total of $US218 million ($A247.03 million) to purchase seven new Q400 NextGen Bombardier aircraft for its regional airline subsidiary QantasLink.
Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce said the Q400 aircraft had become the flagship of QantasLink's regional fleet, after announcing the finalisation of the contract for the purchase.

Good news :) Love the Q400 personally.

I'm yet to fly in a Q400 and its annoying me that I haven't! Hopefully I can soon...

I wonder where they plan to fly them...

I enjoy the Q400, its up there with anything I have flown in, short haul of course.

Its a very confident aircraft, reminds me of the invinsibility of the Fokker.

Do aircraft buffs agree?

Cheers

I expect they'll add capacity here and there and shuffle round the smalle DH-3s.

But I do know for a fact QFLink have a greenfield project going at the moment so we may indeed see some completely new routes added as well!

I like them too - they replaced the DH8C's on the WGA-SYD run early this year (from memory). Very solid aircraft.

The only thing I don't like is that rows 1-4 seems to be blocked for seat selection or OLCI, even for a WP (seems to be a trim issue). e.g. I'm on one at 6:30am tomorrow, but still can't OLCI into rows 1-4.

I normally take 5D.

Agree couldnt get ahead of four, apart from having a chat at the club. Trim issue.

they like to bunch eveyone one up over the wings.

Quite a fast aircraft, not much slower than a jet.

I actually like the Dash 8 to fly in, just wish I could have bigger carry on luggage.

For a day trip to SYD (ex CBR) they have good leg room and I really don't care about in flight entertainment.

I like the Q400s, despite the problems they have had with some accidents elsewhere they seem to be a good alternative to the RJ's.

The QF Crash 8-400 will always beat the DJ RJ Brisbane to Rocky and return in the 1 hour dash (pun acceptable!)

Hi guys,

these are quite swift and not as noisy as their predecessors.

Problem is always limited carryon baggage but you learn to live with that if your fly regional anyway

I flew MELB - ADEL on one of these not long ago, I was given a choice of the regular CityFlyer or this, I thought why not give it a go.

cheers

Stewey

Nothing to rave about !

hehe, i still want to try though:mrgreen:

maybe if parliament is sitting (find out after the election when the new calendar of sittings is available) when i'm in MEL i can hop to CBR for a day to watch (always wanted to watch question time in house of reps in person), there is a Q400 service at 0935.
