All airlines keep surprising me. I did not think it was possible to charge for anything else. Next thing you know they will be charging you for the option to sit down during the flight. :shock:

Now if you stood for the flight it might mean that otiose airbag they currently have on CX seats might be useful for the standees.

Odd how Tiger here say they want to emulate Ryanair instead of Tiger Asia.

They really give you so many reasons to want to avoid them... until their competitors copy them.

Why not get the Debit MasterCard? It is pretty much now available at major Australian banks ....

So essentially a $10 discount for people who elect to use OLCI.

Still no chance of me flying them of course.

My main concern is if this becomes deemed to be acceptable practice then we might see it on QF in the future.

Well I bit the bullet and booked a flight on Tiger. $75 without seat selection compared to $197.70 on qantas and $122.50 on virgin. I have 4 days before I need to be anywhere and that anywhere is my departure port but I digress.

I thought long and hard about taking this step. I think the check in fee might create some interesting dynamics with carry on luggage. Someone who is going to check in at the counter would hopefully see the advantage of buy checked luggage as well instead of risk getting caught with excess carry on.

I think also that tiger will keep upping the fees until they start to consistently make some money, i.e. get more pax.

It really makes you realise just how lucky you are with QF in that you can OLCI, and then either have the agent at the desk print a BP for you, the kiosk, or the staff up in the QP.

I always print two copies of the Boarding Passes, and save the PDF in USB key just i case I need to reprint.

I did this last year when in Europe, and it saved me on the very first day there! When leaving Frankfurt via train, I couldn't find my ticket. Luckily had all my ticket PDF's sitting on my laptop and USB drive, and printed out another copy of the ticket in the business centre. Needless to say, once I arrived in Berlin I found the original one I had printed

Have to say I did similar, and just flew them the other day, so I had a more accurate experience of their operations. Aside from the rest of their well discussed disadvantages, I found their seats spectacularly uncomfortable... they seemed to be like boards with a tiny bit of padding.

Umm, It is only one flight and I saved $120. Hopefully, if I keep telling myself that I can make the 2 hour flight. Ohh, and it is a new aircraft for me.
