Hi all

Well flew CNS-POM early this week and I think the Q400s start doing this run in a couple of days. Air Niugini's response was to reduce frequency on the route, not surprising since 2XQ400s a day almost doubles the capacity. Qantas has stopped selling seats on PX aircraft - at least I can't find any.

I read somewhere that QF is going to make an announcement re the code share in July, although I couldn't trawl anything up on their website.

The lady at the reef lounge confirmed QF not selling PX seats, and added that PX are a bit annoyed at the lack of info - or at least whoever from PX she was talking to was annoyed.

Mrs Pineapple has a QF booking BNE-POM for early July, PX a/c of course. Its not paid for yet, and QBT have advised that the (corporate) fare is only valid till 30 June.

All very interesting. Your idle speculation invited on what QF might announce in July. Informed comment highly valued!!

Reads the writing on the wall......

I think QF will be happy to dump the codeshare and try their luck on their own ex-CNS.

Standby for DJ to do a deal with PX......

DJ already compete on the BNE run, cannot see the need to add CNS to the mix as I doubt the traffic is there, if there was they would have codeshared with Airlines PNG already who they share the BNE route with.

QFlink ex-CNS and DJ to code on BNE-POM was what i meant (sorry if unclear).

QF can funnel pax to CNS on QF or JQ.

BNE is a natural funnel for DJ as it's "home base".

An anticlimactic answer to the question was published today, but you wont find it in QF's media release. You'll find it in an article today about QF's return to POM after an eight year absence.

QantasLink begins POM-Cairns ops | The National

A CODE sharing agreement between Qantas and Air Niugini for the Port Moresby-Cairns (PoM-Cairns) route ended yesterday ... However, it does not affect other Qantas and Air Niugini code sharing arrangement for Brisbane, Sydney and other Australian airports

It would have made sense for both QF and PX to continue the code share, which would have offered Morning (QF) Lunchtime (PX) and Evening (QF) flights POM-CNS on weekdays, with four flights each way on Mondays and Fridays.

Whatever negotiations occurred I suspect PX was incapable of changing their systems to offer PX seats on QF flights. PX is the airline that has announced a frequent flyer program twice in the last six months, but still hasn't actually produced anything of substance other than membership applications.

Looks like the codeshare is back:

Effective immediately, the Australia to Papua New Guinea fares have been updated with following changes:

  • PX booking classes added and CG booking classes removed on the Australia to Papua New Guinea RT Red-e-Deal fare (NBB1PG / SBBPG / VBBPG / NBPGOW / SBPGOW / VBPGOW).
  • PX booking classes added and CG booking classes removed on the Between Australia / New Zealand and Papua New Guinea Normal Fares (YOW2/ DOW1/ JOW2/ YOW1/ YRT2/ DRT1/ JRT2/ YRT1).
  • Transfers paragraph has been updated with a add on route map, PX booking classes added to the Advance Res/ticketing paragraph also add on table have been removed from fares table on the Australia to Papua New Guinea OW/RT Flexi Saver (KEPGOW/BEPOGOW/YEPGOW/KEEPG/BEEPG/YEEPG).
  • PX booking classes added and CG booking classes removed from Res/Ticketing paragraph plus add on table from fares tab have been removed on the Australia to Papua New Guinea RT Super Saver (LSPGOW/MSPGOW/LSSPG/MSSPG).

This looks like a reference to add on fares??

Incidentally, last I was at POM the second 767 is now in service, and the 757 has gone walkabout - and disapeared from the timetable, which now shows two 767s. Although I thought they had intended to retain it on their fleet. I think the second Q400 has turned up, although there's only one listed in the timetable.
