Me and my Partner are looking at going to USA in November/December for a month.
We both have rather large butts, and find normal economy width seats a bit restrictive for long haul flights.
What is the best way to get wider seats for the trip?\
We are considering business class fares, but would like to know what other thing here.
Neither of us are rediculously obese, just big enough to find domestic economy seats a little tight.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Welcome to AFF.

One option to look at is Premium Economy with either V Australia or Qantas.

Normally the seats will be around 19.5" wide, which is between 1" and 2" wider than normal economy seats. They also have more legroom. Price wise it's somewhere in the middle between Economy and Business.

Thanks for the info.
I have never flown with V Australia before.
QANTAS I have flown with may times, always economy and for work. And always domestic. I have had many many bad experiences with them. Are they much different when flying International?

I also agree about looking at Premium Economy with any either V Australia or QF. I've flown PE on QF to the US before and you certainly notice the difference. I've never flown V Australia, however I just bought some guests over from the US and they all flew V Australia and were very impressed.

You should also have a look at Delta at the moment as they have some good specials on Business Class and they fully lie flat. I'm sure someone will correct me if the specials are over.

I've flown back and forth with VAustralia in economy quite a bit recently and wouldn't fly with anyone else now.
V Australia > International Economy
Here's what they say about their economy seats "We have it on good authority that our ergonomically-designed seats are the Pacific’s widest for economy travellers"

Yes i think they may be correct although at 18.8in compared to QF 18.1 that is not a big increase.

Both have 19.5in in Y+ so that would be the best option for size/cost.

Have you considered purchasing an extra seat? Maybe one of you could have the aisle, another the window and the extra seat in between with the arm rests raised.

The purchase of an extra seat on Qantas is discussed here.

Always surprised when people talk about bad experiences with the flying roo - if over 35 years of flying with our national carrier I have ever only had one flight that I was miffed with - all others were up to standard expectations and requirements. It took a BA flight to misplace my bags!

As to the 2nd part of your statement - have returned last night from the UK - flying Qantas - and in both J, F and Y+ the flight was excellent - very good seats, very good staff.

The OP didn't mention what port they were flying into - if LA then book on the A380 as this seating is even better!

If you can handle going via Auckland, then I think Air New Zealand has a PE class you may wish to check out (haven't flown it myself).

NZ's Y+ is very good... on the 747.... Seats are wider, much greater pitch, better recline, more baggage allowed, Business-"Lite" service... I like it!

I wouldn't PAY for it on the 777 (but would upgrade with points)....seats are the same width as Y... all other benefits are the same...

I find simliar problems. Not with my cough, but with shoulder room. If my partner and I travel anywhere I often want to have a different seat to him, only because side by side our shoulders make it very uncomfortable to sit.. not so bad internationally but domestic.. Forget about it!
