While it takes more than a return flight to give a true experience of what an airline is like (to be frank its only when something goes wrong we see the true colours), its interesting to see this article that explains the background to why Tiger said yes to Channel 7 and gives tips on how to improve your experience.

Tiger Airways: not so vicious after all

"Depending on which airport you fly into, check what the taxi or bus fare into town might be. It could cost more than the flight"

I don’t think they’re that bad, but as with other airlines, some cities have better staff and some have worse staff.

I was called in Brisbane to see if I was still coming to the airport, while Melbourne never called. From my experiences with JQ in Melbourne, I’d say it’s just something about the staff down there. It’s not just one airline.

I know it says the writer was NOT a guest of Tiger Airways, but I’m still skeptical. Maybe not a guest knowingly.

Oh and regarding the parking ticket, Qantas surely wouldn’t pay that either, but on an international flight you might get a hotel.

In my past experience with Tiger they are not so bad either. It is just that their policy is very strict, and I understand that.

But then again I haven't yet been receiving end of their flights cancelled ....

2 return tickets for $180.. should have checked for a Jetstar Price Beat

Well I found Jetstar not much better than Tiger. In fact, I have been consistently delayed by Jetstar.

I think the following says it all

One hurdle, for example, is dealing with customers that don't understand how airlines work, that delays and cancellations can be experienced on other airlines.

"When you're offering $28 fares consistently, you're opening yourself up to a whole new market. Some of these people have never flown before," says Regan.

They have basically set up an airline, invited the people whom have never flown before to use it, and then placed in stricter rules to cut costs.

I would however expect that for every one flight that grabs the attention of "airways" another 10 took off no problems. (Don't you love random numbers and statistics )

In anycase I can't watch that "airways" show, as I find myself most of the time agreeing with the airline and just wanting to knock some sense into the pax on TV.

Given exit rows and had their over weight luggage ignored for the return trip?

Who else thinks their ticket was tagged with 'journalist'?

Maybe... I also think TT apply the attitude test fairly frequently...

Basically you act like an cough and they will charge you for everything and anything. You don't act like an entitled coughhole and they may let little things slide.

If a flight works properly then it works properly, if it doesn't then that's when you find out how poorly they really treat the passengers. Wonder what this journo would have written up about the Tiger passengers abandoned for 2 or was it three days in Tassie that time.

Matt

havent had issues with tiger with the flights ive used them for, but i imagine if an issue arose the rectifying of the issue would be a hassle...

I am getting that urge again to book a Tiger flight I do not really need to book.

Always good to have you own personal view of an airline to see what all the fuss is about. And no I am not trying Jetstar....

JohnK,

We are still waiting for your TT experience though and the associated trip report.

It is in the planning stages. Just need to find a spare weekend where I do not need to be anywhere and I will book some flights. Unfortunately most of my weekends are full until at least October.

Personally I think it is going to be a good experience especially since the expectation is to expect nothing and anything above that is a bonus. Plus it also helps to have anytine access to the lounges.

I would be making it a long weekend with the last flight on a Sunday just to be sure ;), unless you have a lenient boss.

Aaaargh! Me too. I get too wound up to watch that show or Airline (the one with Easyjet) and Airport (Heathrow).
I just end up wanting to smack the passengers who think it's their god given right to be rude and aggressive, and most of all, completely clueless.

But then again I haven't yet been receiving end of their flights cancelled ....

Think that is the main issue, I'm sure they are relatively bearable for most people for the price you pay.

However the reliability is something I would not waste my sanity on.
