Our flight from San Francisco is due at 7.30am on a Sunday. Will there be a good chance of getting on the only (10.30am) direct flight to Rockhampton, after going through customs and getting over to the domestic terminal?
I see some 'Go Fares' on offer and want to buy return air now.
Thanks for your help.

Hi,

3 hours is plently of time to connect in Sydney.

Just follow the instructions for transfers and all will go well.

As long as the incoming flight is either on-time or else not delayed for any more than, say, an hour or so, should have plenty of time - maybe even chance to unwind in the lounge prior to your next flight.

This is where your QP membership/ QF status is helpful.

I've managed to connect within 1.5-2 hours as we simply went straight to the Business check-in counters, rather than waiting in the (exceptionally) long queue in the morning.

Not if the OP is on DJ which are the only airline that offers direct to ROK on a "Go" Fare (they are on the UA flight inbound going by the ETA). Unless the inbound flight is on the same booking you have no protection, occasionally during Winter the SFO-SYD flights divert for fuel to NAN or BNE, UA did/often do this. I would suggest looking at the Virgin Air Pass as an alternative to get some protection by taking a later flight at a similar price, or connect via BNE, again on a later flight.

Of course, thanks markis10. Self reference criterion symptom struck me

Qantasitis is curable with a regular dose of JQ, which for the OP is not an option given they left ROK crying foul over the landing charges

If the OP is on UA863, I would be a little bit concerned by the flight aware on time rating : "This flight has an on-time performance of 58%. Statistically, when controlling for sample size, this flight has on-time performance characteristics better than 0% of other flights."

Given the OP is travelling on a fairly rare direct flight, I would be concerned about the transfer time as previously stated, 3 hours should be OK if all goes well but be prepared for alternate options!
