Hi all,

I was hoping to take the wife to Easter Island for New Year this year.

I have looked at Lan.com and the prices are a little high, $18000 for two in J.

2 DONE4's would be almost be the same price so what I am after is any other way of getting to Easter Island.

I can not find another airline that goes there.

Furthermore if any one has been there I would love to hear how long I would need to stay to see everything.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Maybe you can fly to Tahiti (PPT) before taking LAN flight from Tahiti to Easter Island? You can either do this via Qantas/Air Tahiti Nui or Air NZ.

If you have say 70K points on SQ Krisflyer (or 60K in US Airways Dividend Miles) you can actually redeem in NZ J to Tahiti, then you can just buy yourself two J return tix from Tahiti to Easter Island on LAN, or redeem QF/AA points for 2 tix on LAN. That would be cheaper?!

But of course you need to also work out accommodation as well. Not sure how much it costs to stay there at New Year.

When we went 2 years ago we used the Global explorer ticket so you can use the QF codeshare on TN to get to PPT then picking up the LAN service.Slightly more expensive but you can add other South American must dos.We added the Galapagos and the Amazon before flying to MIA for some essential retail therapy for mrsdrron.

I think a DONE4 is probably the best way to get to places like Easter Island. Those hard to get to places are going to be expensive anyway so you might as well use a DONE4, not sure if there is a circle Pacific type fare that might be a little cheaper.

Thanks all for the info.

It does seem that a RTW product is going to be the only way so it will need to wait until next year.

Now to find somewhere else to go for New Year break.

I went to Easter Island last year. I bought online a discounted LAN return ticket to Argentina which allowed a stopover in Easter Island on the way home. LAN flies Easter Island to Tahiti and you connect on the QF codeshare on Air Tahiti Nui to Auckland. Had to spend the night at Tahiti airport though.
