Flight specials ex-SE Asia?

For flight specials from Australia, it's pretty easy to visit bestflights or similar. However, later this year I have to fly from somewhere in SE Asia - BNE - SE Asia (I'll be in Hue, VN but am happy to get a cheapie flight/train/whatever to SIN/BKK/KUL/whatever).

Since flights seem to be cheaper going that way, I'm going to splurge and pay for a full airline! No D7/JQi this time

Does anyone know of any tricks or sites to finding specials departing from Asia? So far I've signed up for the red-e-deals from Qantas from SGN/SIN/BKK, but I am just not sure about other airlines. Google is giving me way too much spam to be effective. And it's just too labourious going through all the cities, and all the airlines, all the time waiting for specials.

No where central you can look, perhaps best is doing by city. From SIN, Misa travel (www.airfares.com.sg ) do put out newsletters and have specials listed but they are annoying in that you have to click through to get taxes, so prices aren't what they first appear. Ex-SGN and ex-BKK wouldn't have a clue. For departures ex-KL, sunway travel (www.sunwaytravel.com.my) have a newsletter as well, but other than it is a matter of checking different airline websites (SQ, TG, EK, MY, QF, CX) or zuji.com.sg.

Oh and for flights to Brisbane I would expect Emirates to usually have the cheapest fares (ex SIN), or maybe even Etihad.

Also for travel from Bangkok there are a number of travel agencies. The ones I trust the most, and have dealt with them in the past, are Saveflights and Chawla Travel. Don't be afraid to send them an email with your desired routing. Sometimes their airfares will be cheaper.

I have even found some bargains using Bestflights (Australian page - just use the 'travel from other countries' option or select the other country as your starting point). Not often the case but worth checking.

BF came up with the cheapest option Honolulu to Manila for me last time on PR. And FWIW they accept the Australian credit card without any problems. Phillipine Airlines was about the same price, but needed me to fax a copy of the credit card etc etc.

Today I ended up booking with QF ex-SIN because they've got a sale out, S$829 SIN-PER-BNE-MEL-SIN (I hate night flights!). Not much cheaper than regular prices, but still quite a lot cheaper than any travel agents I've asked! And it's not much more than AirAsiaX, my usual carrier (though I'll have to get from KCH to SIN, rather then KCH to KUL which is probably easier).

Quite literally SIN - PER - BNE (same day) break for 2 months BNE - MEL - SIN (same day). Even though most of the BNE-SIN flights go via MEL or SYD anyway, I had to put MEL in manually to be able to choose what specific flights I wanted - go figure (I wanted to go via PER to avoid the red eye from BNE-SIN).

That make sense?

Thanks I understand the alternate routing round trip process. Especially as QF now seems to realize alternative routes to the ubiquitous red-eyes are desired by a sizable minority of people.

Anyone had success in getting the walkabout domestic fares combined with a SEAsia-Australia RT while ticketing online?

The other question would be how does one get a Y+ HKG-MEL combined with a domestic MEL-PER without going via two bookings?

One thing we've found booking flights between MEL and SIN is that if you book a flight ex-SIN it will allow you to route via PER for more or less the same fare (some variation in taxes etc) as MEL-SIN direct. ie. SIN-PER-MEL-SIN. But found it very difficult almost impossible to get routing via PER when booked ex-MEL at same fare level ie MEL-SIN-PER-MEL pushes the price way higher than just the straight return (or return booked via SYD for that matter). Must be routing restrictions for tickets issued in AUS - as flights we looked at were wide open in all classes.

Had no luck booking walkabout fares via net either. Yet anyway. Shame it wasn't as simple as booking the Virgin Blue Airpass, which is really easy to book online.

I'd dismissed the walkabout fares this time around due to being time poor with my final exams coming up. But that's a good point - it isn't exactly obvious to a casual visitor to the website how to book one.
