Well according to no news only JQ were affected by the storms in MEL, this is a classic example of a beat up and to be frank, very biased. What about the other airlines who dont have the luxury of staff at AVV? What really scary is the source is being credited as being AAP, have they stooped to new lows?

Edit - More Scary is fairfax have picked it up, word for word.

Please keep in mind the following glossary:

"nearly an hour" anything longer than a minute
"gas and go" diversion
"terrifying flight" a flight operated by JQ that does not arrive or depart on time

Terrifying flight for Jetstar passengers as storm hits | News.com.au

MELBOURNE'S freak storm sent Jetstar passengers on a terrifying flight while their plane circled the airport as the city was being battered by lightning and hail the size of golf balls.

On one Jetstar flight, over 100 passengers endured a white-knuckled ride for nearly an hour on Saturday while waiting for a break in the storm.

How bad was the turbulence above the storm? If there was bad turbulence that's the only scenario where I could see an hour of circling being "white-knuckled", if there wasn't any turbulence circling is just plain boring!

I had a bit of a chuckle when I read the article and I too wondered why it was only mentioning JQ.

I love turbulence, it would have been fun :D

The reminds me of when ACA went out on street and asked an old church lady about abortion. Of course the responses are going to be over the top

They were above the storm laterally, not literally, as JQ704 was at 1800m, in company with REX3562 at 1500m and QF435 at 2400m, all doing 2 minute left hand patterns commencing at Bolinda. I would have thought the REX A/C was the one to be having a whinge.

Or the awesome one this week on the 'Exclusive Brethren'. Hang around one of their compounds and expect unbiased reviews about a homosexual that was given a chemical castration drug 'at his own request'? That's TT/ACA for ya. Train wreck TV at it's finest (I miss the Chasers "what have we learned from current affairs this week?").

Yes I saw this article...

All I can say is that god \ mother nature really had it in for JQ aircraft that day with it's targetted turbulence and all...

I guess they had an "eye witness" account and managed to grab a passenger after the flight.

Pity there isn't a comment box at the bottom of the article.

(They would probably not publish a comment stating that there were two other planes in the area at the time...)

AAP have been writing rubbish for ages. Many of the no-news stories picked up by NoNews are originally written by AAP. Of course NoNews also employs their own beat-up merchants too.

Yes JQ just went looking for trouble.i only experienced the Sunday storm when it was lightening that closed MEL.Boy it really shows that No News journos dont lurk on AFF.I reported the QF pax from ADL that were kept on the plane"nearly an hour"after landing because of the lightening. Also speaking to the FA to DPO there were at least 2 QF Link Dashes circling MEL for "nearly an hour" on Sunday.

All reminds me of my arrival from a LHR-SYD flight which departed on the day of the transatlantic bomb plot being announced in 2006 in the UK. It was fairly hectic at LHR and we couldnt take ANYTHING on board as hand luggage (fortunately this eased the coming days) . To cut to the chase, one of the commercial TV channels was at the passenger arrivals terminal interviewing passengers in SYD.... I didnt get on the news despite being interviewed (all I said was "yes it was busy, but fairly well co-ordinated considering")....instead the news that night had the worst stories (people catastrophising etc). Next time I might create a story / embellish it more by bursting into tears and flailing my arms about.....although these days I doubt that would even be good enough to 'rate' it. Drama, drama, drama.

You could then employ Max Markson and join his stable of "stars" (Tareq and Michaele "Whitehouse Gatecrashers" Salahi, Corey "Party Boy" Worthington, Clare "Chk Chk Boom" Werbeloff, Natasha "hide in the cupboard" Ryan, Lara "dingle" Bingle and notable other 'celebs'), sell your story to New Idea/Women's Weekly/ any News Ltd newspaper and make a fortune!

Umm, but does the fact that there were other aircraft circling change anything that was written in this story. Did they say there were no other aircraft circling that it was only jetstar. I doubt it (please take these comments in the frame that I couldn't be bothered wasting my time in reading the news ltd story).

I'm sure the story doesn't claim that only jetstar was targetted by the storm. That is just your interpretation. The reporter has written a story and he has choosen to ignore that other aircraft were circling. That is his choice and it doesn't make the story any less true. Oh and you do have the option not to read, like I don't read these stories. ;)

Clearly the unamed "journalist" has not done their research either, not one quote is included from a passenger that had a "white knuckle ride" and its the first time I have heard of a "gas n go" in an aviation sense! Two other JQ flights are also mentioned but still no mention of any other airline.

I appreciate your time in making a post even if its to say you cannot be bothered finding out the full story , it quantifies the creditability of your comments. You will no doubt read more in tommorows SMH, as fairfax ran the same story.

Don't get me wrong, i'm not denying that it appears to be misleading by omission or that he hasn't made up some stupid terms. but even the mention of 2 other jetstar flights does not equal a conclusion that the storm targetted jetstar. If one was to write a story about jetstar why include anything about other airlines?

Given that I'm basing my comments on all of the other great comments and interpretation in this thread, then I reckon my comments quantify as highly creditable ;) :D

I doubt I'll read the story tomorrow as I don't read SHM either. I try to limit myself to The Oz and even then will skip the dodgy stories that come over from the state based news rags. :D

quite bad. we got out in between storm cells and it wasnt that pleasant.

SPRUCE:shock:

Medhead, news limited are not stating the storm only affected jetstar, however in this case an omission is as good as a lie. By failing to give the full story it leads people to believe that JQ alone was the only airline flying in the storm, where in reality at least two other airlines where in the same circling pattern (Rex and QF)

The other problem is by choice of headline,

"Terrifying flight for Jetstar passengers as storm hit"

Given most people only read the headlines, and rarely the articles themselves people will form an opinion about Jetstar purely on that headline, when the reality is probably far from the truth.

The problem is that news limited is smart, they know that there is the truth and "the truth". They know that they can not be sued by posting facts alone, and they also know they can sway people just as easily by an omission such as failing to list the other airlines in the air, plus all it takes is one scared pax on the flight for the headline to be true, which is more than likely. They also know that QF probably won't pull it's marketing budget away from them as QF knows a large percentages of their pax do read news limited publications.
