Great prices from DPS - FRA on Emirates $4k r/t, $2.2k one way incl lounge

Am researching J fares out of CGK and DPS to MUC or MXP for Jan/Feb 2028.
Would be family of 4, leaning towards DPS over CGK.

A couple of questions following on from those that have done this plan before:

1. Would likely spend a few days prior, so thinking Bali would be preferable notwithstanding the airport? Or is Jakarta worth a look?
2. When best to book/look for sales for this timing? Is google flight alert best and/or airline websites?
3. Best airline value recommendations given layover/lounge/hard product etc? (Would avoid Saudi and Oman, but rest of ME carriers fine)
4. VN seems to have discounts for 4 x pax. Anyone have luck with this? Can (real) travel agents get deals if book families? Or best to just go with online bookings?
5. Have VFF points and would probably reposition to DPS using VA. J worth it for 44k? Or just stick with economy on the 737-8?

TIA

The low fares are pretty much standard, year-round pricing. Although there may be booking windows for specific airlines. You’ll always usually find one carrier in the $3000 range to somewhere in europe!

DPS or CGK is up to you. You might want to spend a few days in Bali and then fly to CGK to pick up an ultra cheap deal. Just depends on the fares.

I use googleflights, you’d enter in DPS and CGK as the starting points, and them perhaps ‘anywhere’ in the ‘to box’. There can be some great deals.

DPS is now one of my preferred airports… with e-visas you can be out in 10 mins from door open with hand luggage! One of the easiest airports in the world now.

Dunno about Jakarta… the traffic alone would put me off. Beach would be my preferred option.

The thing to watch for is aircraft type in terms of carrier… making sure you note if any are operating the 737 on some of the asian sectors. You want to avoid those unless lie flats. Oman Air is an excellent carrier with some of the best business suites and lounges going… but they also fly the 737 on some asian flights.

I’d loom for fare, carrier and plane type, then choose your stopover.

You can easily open jaw eg out of CGK and back via DPS or v.v.

Both MUC and MXP are often some the the cheaper ports on both QR and CX. We booked CGK-BCN//MUC-CGK on CX recently for next year. Out first “CGK” springboard to Europe a couple of years ago was CX out of CGK and back to DPS. Spent a few nights downtown Jakarta and about a week in Bali on the way home.

Good QF CR availability ex SYD/MEL to/from CGK. We managed to to DPS-PER-SYD JQ/QF home as a “day flight”.
