Western Sydney Airport (WSI) Discussion

Flight down was fairly unremarkable/standard JQ fare. Views of “Mascot” on the way in

Despite my carefully laid plans (assisted by WSI’s website) to sit on the left side of plane for optimal views of the terminal, ATC vectoring instead gave us a fly by but some pretty special views of the mountains

The captain for the inaugural WSI-MEL sector is none other than the legendary Darryl Mumford who I know from his time as chief pilot of Marthakal Yolngu Aviation. Yes we are delayed. I will try and go say hello when we land

Good to see that those contributors from the Northern and Eastern suburbs don’t have to travel West and associate with the “great unwashed” of the West
I wouldn't say that.
Myself living in Circular Quay would love to use WSI if there's favourable time available.
I really hope WSI would have some very early morning departures to PER or AKL so I can connect with low fare Cathay Pacific services to HKG, and avoid the Sydney Premium by 50%.

This is really beautiful landing on WSI, hopefully this would become one of the most beautiful landings of Australia, if not for the world.
As nice as it is, I don't think many landing is going to beat coming in from the North into SYD past Sydney Harbour.

Is there a QF lounge at WSI and if so is it open yet?
No and No.

A third party lounge will open in the international section shortly but obviously not accessible to domestic passengers.

QF services don't launch until the end of March 2027, still a bit over 5 months away. Even when they do launch it'll be just 2x E190 flights per day on only 4 flights per week. So we're talking a total of 8 QF flights per week. There are many other destinations with more than 8 QF flights per week that don't have a lounge (or QF operated lounge) so I can't see a rush to get one operational either.

There is a chance a paid operator launches a lounge and QF eligible pax get access as an associated lounge, something that would rule out JQ access.
