General Medical issues thread

Forgot to say, Seat Daughter now also has pneumonia and is on antibiotics and steroi_s and will also be taking all of next week off work too.

I didn't know that vomiting ws typical of flu, but apparently it is really common in kids.

Seat Daughter has been very sick for a week with Influenza A. Seat Granddaughter got it a couple of days later and has had a hospital visit for high fever 40.7 degrees and uncontrollable vomiting. Seat DIL has somehow not caught it. In conversation, the reason emerged ... Seat DIL had a flu shot. Seat Daughter was "too busy" and did not get hers or take Seat Granddaughter either . More proof that vaccination works.

I regularly get flu shots and have only had flu once - in 2017- the year I was "too busy" and didn't get around to it. It was such a truly bad experience, I have never been too busy to get it ever again. I suspect the Daughter and Granddaughter will not forget it in a hurry either.

I think the vaccination should have been free for all adults. For families really struggling it might mean the difference.

I don't want to revisit my comments when we discussed this 4 yrs ago and I boasted I had not had flu etc in years...I still haven't.

Generally someone in the Sleep disorders or neurology areas.
What I was thinking. Might need a 24hr sleep study. Organisations like the Head, Sleep and Circadian Research Group (CIRUS), Woolcock Institute at Macquarie uni. I know of a good doctor in this area (Philip Lee) but he is in Eastwood, Sydney. He diagnosed MsP when many specialists completely missed her associated sleep affliction.

I get a flu shot every year and if I am going to the northern hemisphere in winter I have another shot unless they have not changed it.
Never had the flu but one year I had RSV ironically when I was running a flu ward..

Thanks for that. I took a sleep study (informastions, not a body covered in probes) at the Woolcock maybe 7-8 years ago (after waiting abt 3 years for a place!). So I should still be on their books. I'll make an enquiry.

When MsP did her sleep study (not at Woolcock) the study was 24hrs in a blackout room. She was sent to sleep, then woken, allowed to sleep, then woken, etc , etc.. Because it was completely dark she did not know what time of day it was. I know a director of Woolcock but if contacted he would just tell me to contact them direct.
I'd look online to see if there were any current restless leg studies. It took me alot of searching to find MrsPs drug trial with only 212 people recruited worldwide.

Unfortunately last January I was very very unwell with Influenza A for 3 weeks with a further 3 weeks pretty miserable and I’d had a flu shot. I’d never had the flu before and never been as sick. I certainly don’t feel as confident in the flu shots as I used to be.
