Thinking of booking a few 4 night stays at Ibis Styles properties in western Europe and the UK next year.
Are they much better than a standard Ibis? Or should we look for a Novotel or something a bit more upmarket?
6 weeks away so the budget is tighter than in used to be.
I'll be Accor+ Gold next year.
I would appreciate any insights.

I've been Accor Diamond or Platinum for 15 years but have only ever stayed in one ibis Styles and that was in Karratha WA. Nothing wrong with the place. Really depends on what you want, your budget and how much time you envisage spending in the hotel. Let us know which way you go. I have found Mercure to be a solid option ✈️ 🥂 🙏

IME, IS branding is a way to pitch a budget property but without the cookie cutter design, thus allowing some older properties. There’s a lot of variability across IS properties. Some are boutique’y nice whilst others not great.

Check the reviews carefully. If in doubt, gravitate towards Mercure or Novotel.

Status doesn’t count for much in Europe but you might get a better floor/aspect.

I've stayed in a few Ibis styles in different parts of the world (recently in Seville and Nagoya) and in Aus and found them generally pretty good. It's still a budget hotel - so smaller rooms, pre-fab bathrooms, and less room amenities (eg most don't have a wardrobe, just a hanging rack). But I've always found them clean and comfortable, and the staff are usually young and peppy. You may not want to stay in an Ibis Styles for a week (I don't) , but they are really fine for a couple of nights - 4 nights hits right in the middle, so I'm not sure how I feel. But if budget is an issue, I think it would be find for 4 nights - maybe see if they have any "good rooms" and pay for that. Honestly, it's the lack of space that bugs me the most - there are 2 of us and luggage, so it's annoying to me when everything/everyone is underfoot for a longer stay.

Excellent summary, thanks. I am thinking that 4 nights might be a bit long for this brand. We are recently back from Japan where the size of the rooms in some of our hotels became an issue, especially for luggage where one suitcase is fine but two is a squeeze. (We cannot do HLO, ever!)

The good thing with IS is they can have varying room types (not all identical like a regular Ibis). So it’s possible to pay a little more and get a bigger room.

Thats just Japan in general. Especially Tokyo.
15-18sqm business hotels are the "norm". Even Mercures are only around 22-25sqm.

Europe Ibis styles can be a fair bit bigger. Our rooms in Nice were reasonably sized.

There's a sizable nook around both corner for suitcases and one leads to the toilet.

I agree with others… the Styles brand turns it from a very plain - but functional - Ibis, into a property that’s a little bit warmer, more inviting, and more peaceful in terms of comfort and amenities.

There’s a little bit of design, and extra touches. If ibis budget is 1.5 star, and regular Ibis 2 and a bit star… styles is sort of like just under three star. It’s a premium economy offering.
