Updated Air Services agreement between Australia and Indonesia

The updated MoU builds on the previous arrangements signed in 2011 and allows for an additional 5,000 seats per week from Australia (including the 4 larger Australian capital cities) for airlines of both countries, in addition, the updated bilateral allows direct services between Australia and the regional Indonesian cities.

Jetstar today announced it would begin flying between Perth and the Indonesian island of Lombok from 24 September^. The new route will be the first non-stop service from Australia to the emerging tourism destination.
To celebrate the launch of the new service, Jetstar will be offering special sale fares of $119* one way from Perth to Lombok.

So are they applying for these seats or does everyone get an even share?

VA will want Perth to Bali, and likely more frequency into the 3 Capitals. Even more frequency from Qantas Mainline would be good.

Jetstar has enough capacity they don’t need anymore!

They'll need to apply to IASC to be allocated the seats.

As a data point, the current seat allocation for major ports as of June 2026:

• Qantas Group: 20,076 seats
• Virgin Australia: 4,924 seats

AirAsia also flew from Perth to Lombok. It started in 2019 and stopped when the pandemic hit.
