I found a one way BKK - Western Europe in January for A$1900, one stop, no lounge access, Class J.
Would that be classified as cheap?
Also OneWorld carrier, Western Europe one stop J to Tokyo for A$2400, is it cheap or there's cheaper?

Cheap by ex Oz standards. But if you’re after OW, then QR and CX ex CGK are some of the cheapest. We’re in the middle of a trip using CX after we cancelled QR.

Even QR Lite fare ($3-$3.5k return) you’ll still get lounge access at CGK and DOH as WP. CX is closer to $4.5k ret (I Just booked one on Trip.com - slightly cheaper than direct but I could pay in AUD and earned QFF points). CX uses the much better lounge at CGK.

One downside to CX is you might get the regional J seat on CGK<->HkG. This trip it’s full flat on the tour sectors including one Aria. The trip I just booked for next year (CGK-HKG-BCN/MUC-HKG-CGK) has regional config on both the short hops..hopefully that changes (it’s months away).

Have you had to do yur own flight change at CGK?
Do you need to pay any fee or have the health declaration to leave airside to collect bags and check in again?

Yes, currently on our fourth trip post COVID flying via CGK. QF J (return) on points Oz-CGK. We normally o/n at CGK. Airport hotels are cheap and even with the eVOA, it’s still half the price of J ex east coast.

This trip, because we wanted to cancel QR and rebook CX, it was cheapest to do a same day transfer at CGK on the way home. Which we’re happy take that risk but wouldn’t on the way out.

Yes, you need to do whatever’s in play at the time of transit. Health declaration seems to have dropped off but the Customs and eVOA can all be done together within 3 days out.

We’ll find out soon if CX will check thru our luggage on seperate tix, otherwise we’ll just do all the declaration / eVOA online in the lounge.

Next year we’re o/n’ing again. The Anara (attached to CGK landslide) is very convenient when arriving from SYD/MEL on QF and departing on the early arvo CX/QR flights. For us, coming home on QF, it’s a late’ish departure so we’re trying the Mercure PIK (that’ll have more options for things to do filling in time).

Most airlines seem to have a strict 3hr before check-in opening time. Fortunately QF has early checkin for elites.

No idea what the repositioning options ex PER are like.

In a word, awful.
The only non-stop flight PER-CGK is Batik (OD).
But at least its only 4 hours!
And the whole round trip in J will cost well under $5,000.
With Q-suites DOH-CDG.
But of course the "others" lounge in DOH.

The QR tix we cancelled was “Classic” over and back (into HEL and out of MAD*) - so full lounge access. It’s kinda random when / where they spring the “Lite” fares.

They possibly weren’t “Lite” because both “short” sectors were codeshares (operated by AY and IB). QR metal ex MAD at exactly the same time was more $$. Ironically with all the bombs flying, IB pulled out, so switched to QR metal and then AY pulled out and switched to QR metal but by then we could cancel for free.

DPS can work also. I haven’t checked recently since it’s harder to get ex SYD but our first trip via CGK was actually open jaw CGK-Euro-DPS via HKG. We spent a few nights in Bali on the way home and took JQ to PER (it wasn’t awful) and QF J to SYD.

You haven’t disclosed the airline, so it’s not really possible to tell if it’s ‘cheap’.

At the $1900 price you have some of the ‘stan’ airlines, and not all of them offer flat beds… some are just 2+2 recliners on narrow body planes. You also have the likes of Indigo in that range (= not a bargain because no flat beds).

I leave Bangkok tomorrow for Frankfurt on a full J Etihad ticket I bought a few weeks ago for $3500 return. So $1900 without lounge and probably seat selection seems a little pricey one way.

And bear in mind Turkmenistan Airlines is only $1000 one business class, with lounge access 🤣🤣

The OP should check and compare the prices on googleflights… they’ll find Etihad, Gulf Air and others all cheaper than $1900 one way.

Etihad currently have fares for $1340 one way Jakarta to Milan.
That’s on a value fare so no lounge access. For $120 more you can choose Comfort which comes with lounge access, seat selection, chauffeur, free wifi and is on a refundable ticket.
$1460 one way in J is pretty damn good on a good airline IMO.
We tend to choose CGK as plenty of award availability from Australia normally and it’s a great airport and easy immigration. Normally spend a couple of days at the Raffles and it’s a great way to start the trip

I'm sure the forums have some talk about Garuda returning to Perth . .maybe? But only for Bali and not Jakarta. Don't think I would fly Batik. So I kinda look at using SQ to Jakarta from Perth via Singapore ....down the back can be with seat selection at around 900 dollars return. . 🫣🙄. Well it's all good fun....

I usually price Europe ex DPS Vs CGK and its usually more expensive (more popular with European pax flying out).

You ought to be able to open jaw however. Out CGK / return DPS (if that’s of interest to peeps wanting a Bali stopover).

Where can I get $1000 Business Class?
What I can get are these ones, which departs within 30 days.
Do you need 10 months advance purchase to get those fares?

To be honest, I don't do advanced bookings unless it is Double Status Credits (which will become useless after 2027). I like the feeling where you can book the flight on your way to the airport, and board the plane right away.

Looks like CGK is quite close -

Note all fares are one way because I usually book one way flights.

Yes I have used Singapore as my 'changeover' port as I also have no intention of flying Batik. But as the prices out of Sin have continued to rise the jump to Jakarta seems like a good option.

Is there a strategic reason buying one way fares or just a preference can I ask?

It is strategic where I do search one way fares and often open jaw because I can find many fares which will get you from Continent A to Continent B cheaply, and you can simply change for a domestic (or Intra-EU) flight to my final destination.
The problem is when you are searching for these fares, not every port in Europe prices the same, where some is cheaper than others.
And sometimes is only cheap doing in bound and outbound is more expensive. So one way fare could allow me to always get the cheapest deal.

You have now clarified your requirements.

Your original post omitted the most important details, which were route, and dates.

$1900 is a good fare for that route on those dates.

Although $3100 for the return on Etihad is much better than 2 x one ways.

My post listed Turkmenistan airlines for $1000. That’s from Kuala Lumpur and/or Bangkok to either London, Frankfurt or Milan. All operated by ex Cathay 777s with flat beds. The fare is available at short notice, it’s the standard fare.

But if you find those combinations, and if they’re on the same airline, it’s often possible to get a far cheaper fare with an open jaw.

Etihad return for $3160 will likely be far cheaper than $1900 one way… and trying to find $1200 for a return flight.
