... and me this: "Direct" in Airline speak could have one, two, or even more stops... think QF1 direct SYD > LHR. It should say "Non-Stop or 1 Stop"

Except awards on flights like QF1 from SYD to LHR are shown with a dash denoting no stops (reflecting that they are direct, but not non-stop). So 'Direct' reflects the nature of the flight correctly in some instances.

Anybody here have an idea how the visibility works on the "Qantas Flight Reward finder"?
Is it that logged in Gold members, for example, will see greater availability than bronze for example - or will the tool show all availability but perhaps flights further out are not actually bookable by low status members?

No idea regarding QF flights at the tier level; but be aware it won't list Classic Plus (which are cheaper during a sale period - see current US/Canada offer).

Bloody great tool for non-QF metal, though. Just set up a bronze account to take a look at this and I can see the same availability intra-Japan, MEL-HKG, SYD-ICN as I can on my P1 account.

I believe it just shows what's available for Bronze members, and note Qantas status only affects availability on QF flights, not partners.

Yes, which is the main limitation. The other being it doesn’t go beyond 354 days out nor let you search intra-region.
