Melbourne Airport unveils $4.5 billion international terminal expansion

Wonder how much of the "Free zones" will be free for 15mins, or in other words, not really long enough to get to/from the terminal or wait for someone as they arrive - just like at SYD.
Shouldn't that be the bulk? If you need to go and meet someone inside, most people would park and be waiting as they walk out.

Also current MEL has a lot of people abusing the turn up and go. Definitely seen people parked there for 30mins or so until the rangers move them on.
I don't understand this map showing the pick up zone:

Or this one showing the drop off zone:

This is the arrangement I was expecting, shown elsewhere on the same site:

Those maps are the current existing pick up and drop offs not the new ones. The last one is closer to the new one. Given that it hasn't started yet, I'd give a pass to the website for showing current pickup arrangement without confusing people with upcoming changes.

Yes, for sure, except that are placed within the pages relating to the new arrangements. Dumb - or put there in error. Might check it again tomorrow :)

If one media report seen is correct, they're allowing one whole minute to drop travellers off.

If there are three travellers in a car, taking suitcases out of the boot may take longer than 60 seconds.

Generous, hey?

It’s currently one minute now - so there is no difference. The ‘rangers’ generally don’t push you to move on if they see you actively loading/unloading, rather than just sitting there.

Some image from the ABC article. These artist renditions are not as good as real engineering drawings.
Very little cover~protection from the the Melbourne weather

Looks like 6 lanes of drop off.

Pick up looks confusing. This is in inside the car park building so visibility beyond the first row of cars will be poor.
