Once I got a call from a detective at Scotland Yard about my daughter losing her phone. Not only do I not have a daughter but I was actually in London at the time. So I told him I was just around the corner and I would come in and just wait for detective Drron.. That phone turned up quickly..

My wife got the laziest scam e-mail yesterday. It just said that 'your assessment was ready' and to click the link. The sender was not even disguised as some government body it just used the name of a Philadelphia Dentist.

I know, I got one similar and at first I didn't believe her. Now I own a Cirrus light aircraft and the cough is costing me $1200 per month in parking fees at Bankstown airport and she won't take it back because she reckons it's a gift.

I was listening the "Life and Technology with Charlie Brown" program on 2gb this morning when I listener called up to relate that he is receiving emails addressed to someone with the same name as him but with a "full stop" between first and last name. Bills, inter-family missives etc.. He opined if this other person in the US was receiving his emails as well. The host explained email protocol allowed you to put a full stop anywhere in a name in the email address and it made no difference to whether or not you received the email. The recommendation is that if you receive a same name email with a full stop in the name then it is a scam / spam and you should teach your email client to treat it as spam and bin it.

I originally thought that but I keep getting emails for someone in the US including their cooking school booking in Paris and how much their kitchen renovation cost (heaps) and I did respond to someone who kept emailing about a reunion who was very apologetic about having the wrong email address - never any links

I have two outlook.com email addresses, one with a dot between my first and last names and one without a dot. Incoming mail does not get mixed up between the two, so I'm not sure the host is correct.

Update: I just sent an email to my bigpond address with an extra dot (correct address does not have a dot) and it was returned as "recipient does not exist". So I'm quite sure the host is incorrect (or bigpond and outlook do not follow email protocol).

So I just tested this by placing a dot in my gmail address and it was delivered to me, with the dot, immediately.

Edit: Forwarded to an AFF member and it was returned as "Address Not Found"

Google at one stage made me get a Gmail account. My real name was taken so my Gmail had a dot between the 2 names
But I received emails that definitely not for me so I deleted the account.
Fast forward 10 Years and I opened a Gmail account and they said I already had one. Yes my names with the dot. But now all emails to me have the dot.
Did the other fellow leave this world?
