Europe EES queue?

How are the queues at Frankfurt arrivals now?
For those needing to the EES thing at arrival

I'm flying over in mid Sept and would like to book a domestic flight within Germany so unsure how much time to allow.

I think it would depend on what time of day you arrive. If it's in the morning, I would expect very long queues as so many intercontinental flights arrive then. Allow 3+ hours for the connecting flight. In the mid-afternoon it could actually be OK.

I flew into LIS last week, from outside the Schengen Area. I had heard many horror stories, but landing at 7pm we were the only flight coming in at that time and there was no line.

It was slow going at FRA in the evening when we went through in February. There are flights arriving in the late afternoon/evening from Asia, Japan etc. We were 10th in the queue and it took 30 minutes to get through, with a couple officers working.

According to this article, non-EU citizens will need to get a "ETIAS" travel authorisation prior to travel to the European Schengen area from 2020. The authorisation would last for 3 years and cost a small fee, similar to the US/Canadian visa waiver I presume. Slightly annoying but I can't see this being a huge hassle.

I flew into Amsterdam around 7AM last month and it was a bliss to get my EES registered. Not many people were in the line and a quick scan of eyes and fingers - done!

It's honestly all over the place. Each airport is different and different for everyday it seems. Even within the day. Overall it seems to have improved but you could always be caught out in some random situation where they've turned off a whole bunch of things.

Frankfurt also varies massively between T1 (usually pretty speedy) and T3 (often dire)

In June and July. In transit in Frankfurt from non Schengen. . In and out in France, Malta and Lisbon. No issues at all in any of these. Except they still haven't fingerprinted me, and my photo scan was refused by the machine. MrP has had all three done at the same time. It's a random hot mess.

I strongly recommend looking up scheduled arrivals before your own arrival (or use an LLM to do the hard work). For instance, I was looking at an early morning arrival into CPH, but then found that there were five long-hauls arriving in the preceding hour, so that means 1000+ pax needing to clear immigration around the same time, with a presumably large proportion needing to do EES registration, so I decided against that flight. Who knows what it would actually end up being like, but for an airport that managed the introduction of EES processing badly, it's a risk I prefer to obviate.

My nephew flew into Rome from Perth on Qantas about the sametime we flew Qatar into Frankfurt back at the end of June.

He said there wasn't a queue and they were through in under 5 minutes.

I was at FCO at the start of August. Clown fiesta at 22:00. Apparently at 20:00 it was ok on the same day.

Took us 1.5h to get through because they shut down egates and the signage was terrible.

But according to other reports on FT, it was reasonably fine at 20:00 on the same day.

We are arriving about 8.30am from JFK so might be a bit hectic. At least I know what to expect, anything!

Thanks for that. We are on an award from JFK so don't have much option.

Going into Frankfurt, terminal 3, early morning, horrid! 23rd June.

T1 wasn't too slow, but hopelessly disorganised. No queue management at all, and a couple of groups would wander forward and pretend to ask a question, then rejoin the queue at that point (pushing in). A very large group (12ish) of older Argentinians wound up getting yelled at by the young Argentinian behind me for being a disgrace to the country. He apologised to us (unnecessary) and they shouted back.

They caused further delays when they reached the counters and it became clear they'd all walked past the pre registration counters.

Interesting note, because we went back and forth through FRA and ZRH from non-Schengen to Schengen and back again - we did not have to re-register at either of those airports, but MUC would not let us proceed to border control without doing it again.

Flew into CDG early June, and there were no issues. They were using the booths. Flew out of Nice, mid-June again no issues.
