My experience since becoming P1 this year is that even being WP is not that reliable for J classic reward releases any more. I can only recall x2 “ yes” to reward release request as 9 years WP, and so far as P1 have only had a “No” to requests on QF1/2. Even checking on expert flyer there is very often D availability when there is no I availability, even to NZ and well in advance. Making hay while the sun shines!

I had a similar experience, tried twice while WP for a CR release on long-haul J, both times denied.

I no longer chase WP due to this and am happy with retaining SG.

This is more of a thread ‘VA compared to QF’.

On that front… QF is miles ahead in just about every aspect save for pre-departure beverages.

Sure there are great FF programs outside of QF, but not sure that’s what the OP is getting at.

But for me VF definitely in front of QF. Cheaper J fares and points that are easier to use on flights I want. Namely SQ and QR if the ME ever settles down.

The J fares are cheap. Give you that.

But VAFF seems to have left pax on VA tickets to the ME stranded recently, when they suspended flying? Not accommodating them on other airlines? That’s a big fail.

I guess if flying business the benefits of status - or lack of them - as part of a wider alliance won’t be as big an issue.

Which is the proposition I was making when the program changes were announced… those flying VA based on price are not suddenly going to shift to Qantas because it’s harder to get status on VA.
